Rocco Passafuime here. As you may know, NBC is cancelling the airing of the Golden Globe Awards for next year. The Golden Globe Awards are run by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an exclusive club of 100 journalists from around the world. But for decades, the organization has had controversies with Hollywood that reached a boiling point this year with the revelation being leaked from the normally secretive organization that it hasn’t had a black journalist in its ranks in over 20 years. Best Actor will likely be the late Chadwick Boseman for the Netflix movie Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Best Actress will likely be Carey Mulligan for Promising Young Woman, Best Supporting Actor will likely be Lakeith Stanfield for Judas and the Black Messiah, and Best Supporting Actress will likely be South Korean native Yuh-jung Yoon for Minari. The Best Picture recipient will likely be for the drama Nomadland.

We are deeply saddened to learn that Pancho’s Cantina in Island Park, where we have done our tapings of Broadcasting On The Beach, is closing. We loved doing shows at Pancho’s and have great memories from Pancho’s. We thank the staff, especially Gary, Dan and Mike, for treating us so well over the years. We will cherish the memories from the best Mexican restaurant in Long Island.

Rocco Passafuime here! As you may or may not know, the incredibly talented actor Sean Connery just died at the age of 90. On top of a long line of great roles, the movies that first made him an international star and iconic in the first place was as the original James Bond in the still-thriving 007 movie franchise.

His impact on the intellectual property was so undeniable that the author of the original novels, Ian Fleming, who was initially not all that enthused with Connery playing the character when he initially wanted actors like Richard Todd and David Niven, ultimately retroactively gave the Bond character Scottish ancestry (Connery himself was actually Scottish, not English) in the last few 007 novels he wrote before he died.

Connery even returned to the role twice both in the 1970’s and 1980’s with open arms. Connery was proof that charisma and acting talent often overcomes the potential weaknesses of a character on the script page alone, as the James Bond character in the original novels was often accused by critics throughout the decades of being sexist and even downright misogynistic. Sean Connery truly left a mark as one of cinema’s greatest and most charming actors.
