Long Beach Playhouse

Long Beach Playhouse The Long Beach Playhouse is one of the oldest continually operating volunteer community theatres west of the Mississippi.

Nearly a thousand productions have passed through the doors of the Playhouse, being produced on the 200-seat Mainstage and the 98-seat Studio theatre. Every year over 20,000 patrons grace the theatre with their presence. Mainstage productions attract high-quality non-professional actors, producers, directors, designers, and dedicated community volunteers. The Studio theatre produces work of contem

porary playwrights and aids the Playhouse’s dedication to bringing quality theatre to the Long Beach area. A new production opens every three weeks, making Long Beach Playhouse readily accessible for wide-ranging audience experiences. More than 300 community volunteers make Long Beach Playhouse productions happen through on-stage, backstage, and administrative assistance. Volunteers also guide the organization through governance and policy-making. Each year Long Beach Playhouse reaches out to young people of the community by offering a Summer Youth Workshop for aspiring theatre participants. The Playhouse continues its years of excellence through ticket sales, membership dues, and by the generous contributions of individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

Meet Erin Rose (PATTIE) in KIMBERLY AKIMBO (The Play) at the Long Beach Playhouse.

Erin is beyond thrilled to make her LBP debut in Kimberly Akimbo. She was most recently seen in CHP’s Julius Caesar at the Hobgoblin Playhouse. Favorite roles include Hermione (The Winter’s Tale), Puff (Miss in Her Teens), and Kent (King Lear). Notable film work includes The Boston Strangler (Hulu) and Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. Endless thanks and love to Jonah, Mom, Dad, Mike, Deb, Annie, and David!

See them in the funny, warmhearted, and bittersweet comedy play that inspired the recent Tony Award winning musical, KIMBERLY AKIMBO! Kimberly is a lonely 16-year-old girl suffering from a disease that causes her to age at more than four times the normal rate. Feeling trapped inside the frail physical body of an elderly woman, Kim meets Jeff, another young misfit at school, and an uncertain relationship develops between them. Soon her life goes “akimbo,” contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality, and most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love. - Only running until July 3!

AUDITIONS: HANGMEN - Coming Soon, July 6-8, 2026 at the Long Beach Playhouse.

Audition for HANGMEN, Martin McDonagh’s corrosively funny black comedy thriller. In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what's the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they've abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars dying to hear Harry's reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit. When old crimes are revisited, and people go missing, who is the guilty party in this juicy tale of capital punishment that will leave you “hanging” on the edge of your seat. - All Roles are Open!

AUDITION DATES:
In-Person, Open Call Auditions are:
Mon., July 6, 2026, 7pm - 9pm
Tues., July 7, 2026, 7pm - 9pm
(Auditioners only need to come to one night of Open Call Auditions. We are only seeing in-person auditioners during audition times - no video submissions. Auditioners will be seen on a first come, first serve basis determined by when they signed-in at the Open Call.)

CLOSING NIGHT! - THE LION IN WINTER has its final performance tonight at the Long Beach Playhouse.

CLOSING NIGHT TONIGHT!
Saturday, June 13, at 8pm - FINAL PEFORMANCE!

This is your last chance to see THE LION IN WINTER, a contemporary medieval drama that is a modern day classic that tells the story of the Plantagenet royal family, locked in a free-for-all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom. Think “Succession” but with crowns and swords. The Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army with her sons against her husband, King Henry II. Let out for the holidays, the family descends into sibling rivalry, adultery, and desperate maneuvering for the throne. As Eleanor says, “Every family has its ups and downs,” in this intelligent show that bursts with astringent wit and a humor that bristles and burns. - Must close TONIGHT!

Meet Patrick Peterson (BUDDY) in KIMBERLY AKIMBO (The Play) at the Long Beach Playhouse.

Patrick is very thrilled to return to the Long Beach Playhouse for Kimberly Akimbo! Past shows here included some other darkly humorous stories, such as The Cripple of Inishmaan and The Pillowman. He’s grateful for his chance to play a Dad for the first time on stage; and also grateful for his insanely talented Castmates, ceaselessly dedicated Stage Manager Emily, and trustingly faithful Director Michael. He’d also like to thank his family and his friends for their unending support!

AMAZING! We got another great review for THE LION IN WINTER! Thank you to Joel Beers of Stage Raw for coming out to see the show. Come see the show that has a “potent mix: a surprising warmth beneath the dry, biting barbs, and a sense of humor.”

THE LION IN WINTER only has two more performances this weekend and must close on June 13th!

Meet Spencer Kayden (KIMBERLY) in KIMBERLY AKIMBO (The Play) at the Long Beach Playhouse.

Spencer is quite thrilled to be debuting at LBP. She grew up in Costa Mesa and her very first play was at Fountain Valley Community Center in 1976. She has performed on Broadway in Urinetown the Musical (Tony Award nomination) and Don’t Dress for Dinner (Tony Award nomination), and done lots of low-budget, scrappy theater with wonderful people. Thanks to all who made this show possible! Theater folk are the best, aren’t they?
