Inherit the Wind opens at LBCC Performing Arts auditorium on October 2nd - one weekend only - 5 performances. A play about censorship in America 100 years ago, that unfortunately plays as if it was written this year. A great courtroom drama, with a powerful message. Come see it!

🌀 Ubu Roi reigns at Long Beach City College October 3rd-6th! 🌀

Alfred Jarry’s Ubu Roi (1896) is a revolutionary absurdist play that satirizes power, authority, and the grotesque nature of human ambition. Through the character of Papa Ubu, a crude and tyrannical figure, Jarry presents a farcical critique of the greed and corruption inherent in political systems. Notably, the play’s exaggerated violence and surreal, nonsensical dialogue introduced avant-garde elements to theater, laying the groundwork for movements like Dadaism and Surrealism. Ubu Roi remains influential as an early precursor to 20th-century absurdist drama. Jarry’s use of absurdity to reflect the irrationality of power dynamics offers a darkly comedic exploration of human nature and societal structures, pushing the boundaries of theatrical convention.
