These Tiny House Cities began as a question: what happens to community when it’s forced off the ground?

They grew out of years spent on the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina. They began as doodles in my sketch books while spending time on the Gulf Coast post-Katrina, designing houses that were raised higher and higher off the ground to meet new flood codes.

The stilt cities you see here are imagined places. neighborhoods suspended in the air, connected by ladders and structure, decorated with flags and color. They are about adaptation, resilience, and the human need to make a home feel like home, no matter how high off the ground it has to be.

We’ve never seen anything quite like Jennifer Shaw’s lumen prints. These pieces are one of a kinds. Each one requires a new compositions (using flowers, grasses, snakes, butterflies, birds, etc.) exposed without a camera directly on photo paper using the sun. Because of this each is one of one. There is a lot of trial and error that goes into these and Jennifer has taken this process to another level with her range of tones and her exquisite compositions.
