By now, you may have noticed that our social media has been missing its usual preconcert content. A few weeks ago, based on the ongoing wildfires that have devastated our communities, the recent legislative attacks directly harming many of our own, and conversations with many of our singers, we decided to cancel the concert.

Our mission isn’t just about making art—it’s about caring for our community, and right now, we think our energy is better spent showing up for each other in tangible ways.

We’ve used the last few weeks to figure out how we, as an organization, could best show up for our community at this time. Ultimately, we decided to use the funds for our concert to help support displaced folx with the things vital to them. In partnership with our underwriters and donors for this project, we have donated $5,000 to California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.

There will be space for music again, and we’ll come back together to sing when the time is right. But for now, please take care of yourselves and each other.

Our city is on fire, our neighbors have lost everything. We have decided to postpone February’s “Feed the People” and focus on art to lift up those in our community affected by these fires.

Right now, all of our energy is spent supporting those displaced and in danger as a result of this tragedy.

When we come together for our concert in February, we will find community through art, reflect on the impact of the wildfires, lift up the incredible justice warriors who mobilized to provide care in the face of devastation, and come together to sit with how we as a community, through mutual aid, can rebuild a city in ashes.

We know that supplies and monetary donations will still be needed a month from now. Voices for Social Justice will not be taking any donations from this event, but will be using it as an opportunity to raise funds and gather supplies for the fire victims. We will wait to choose exactly where those funds and donations will be directed once we get through these next few weeks.

There’s only a little over 24 hours left in 2024 and we’re going to spend every last one of them celebrating how incredible of a year it has been! You can be part of making sure the same disruptive, impactful art we made this year can keep happening in 2025 through your year-end donation.

What a week we have ahead of us, friends. There is still so much fight to be fought and each of our voices still has the power to protect our country and community. As the days go on, the exhaustion and weariness certainly does, as well. We hope you will join us for this time together next Friday as we hold space to process and be in shared energy. 🤍
