Happy 25th Birthday to our Red Fan Parrot brothers Chaz and Raz! 🎉

Although they cant talk, these boys are very loud and vocal and enjoy interacting with the keepers and guests. Their favorite enrichment is jumping in their bushes for a mist bath or chewing on a variety of browse plants. They are big fans of walnuts, almonds and mealworms! 🪱🥜 Stop by this week to celebrate!

🧡Happy International GLT day!!🧡

Today is the 10th year anniversary of GLT day and we are raising awareness for these endangered primates! GLT’s are found only in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, and due to deforestation their numbers are lowering in number. Zoos are one of the key factors on how their populations in the wild went from under 200 to over 3,000!
Today, approximately 40% of wild GLT’s are descendants from zoo-born animals reintroduced back to the forests. To celebrate, our keepers created posters and enrichment for our female GLT that we have here at the zoo!

Our 2 Pied Tamarins, Apple and Hazelnut moved out to their new home this week! Their exhibit is located between our Red Foxes and old Fosa exhibit. Please remember to use quiet voices while they adjust to their new environment. If you're extra quiet you might be able to hear some of their vocalizations!

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our male Golden Lion Tamarin, Davi. He passed away last month at the age of 17. Davi's health rapidly declined and due to a life altering mass found in his gallbladder, our animal care staff made the very difficult decision to humanely euthanize him.

Davi was very vocal and one of the louder animals heard around our zoo. He was very active and loved getting snacks from his keepers. He happily shared a home with our female Pudu and our female GLT. Davi was the more adventurous of the pair and was always first to look through his puzzle feeders. The Micke Grove Zoo will miss him dearly. 🧡

Our female GLT has been adjusting well to the loss of her friend and is getting a lot of individual attention now. We are actively searching for a new companion for her.
