I have something I have been working on for months and I am SO excited to share it with you! (don’t worry, bee love cookie co. isn’t going anywhere)
The Sprinkle Room
a kids art studio
Since I was a child I have found solace in art. Not fine art, nothing fancy really, just the act of creating. In my life I have worked with more mediums than I can count. I was lucky enough to be able to attend art classes when I was a child (think less formal classes, more art experimentation), and had a mom who always had us creating and crafting, even on a dime! I like to think those opportunities shaped me into the “maker” I am today! I have had multiple businesses over the years, all with art and design at the base of them.
Fast forward to now, I have two children and a wonderful husband and we live in Lodi, California. For YEARS I have searched high and low for something like what I had, for my own children! My daughter (10) loves crafting and art, yet the only formal “class” I have found for her is an after school 30-40 minute directed drawing class. Sure, it served it’s purpose, but I would love for her to have the opportunities like I did; To learn how to paint on canvas, use modeling clay, play with fun, colorful materials, use “junk” to create, and so so so much more!! As well as learning art fundamentals and styles along the way. Sadly art classes are so hard to find for kids here, and as years go on art is becoming less and less prevalent, to nearly non-existent in our schools. Art is so incredibly important for our children, it expands a child’s ability to interact with the world around them, and provides a new set of skills for self-expression and communication. Not to mention it helps to develop the right side of their brain and heightens their ability to be creative. The list of reasons “why” our kids need art is enormous.
So early in the COVID-19 lockdown my wheels really started turning. Why don’t I use the studio I already have (currently used for pick-ups and classes for my cookie decorating business) that is already set up for classes, and create what I have always longed for, for my children and the kids in our community! I have worked closely with local teachers, the homeschool community and kids to create a space that will inspire art and fun for many ages and abilities.
I am going to come right out and say it; My goal is to grow an art program from the ground up, bring on more teachers to teach more mediums, and fill a dire need for kids art in our community! For now we are going to focus on elementary age and up because that is where I see the biggest need. However, I’d love to see us moving into a bigger location, having more range and opportunities when it comes to open studio art, process art, preschool mom & me classes, and more.
I have many hopes and dreams for this adventure but it can only succeed if parents see the value of art for our children. I promise to find the best instructors and teachers, to have fun-yet challenging and engaging classes, and to continue to expand on mediums for our kids to explore. I am so excited for this journey, as a parent, and as an entrepreneur to fill the need I see in my community. Thank you for your continued support, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for The Sprinkle Room!
