WHO REMEMBERS AL CAPP’S DOGPATCH USA THEME PARK IN HARRISON ARKANSAS? Well, in a twist that would baffle even Mammy Yokum’s infallible 'conjurin' powers,' Dogpatch’s own resident brute, Earthquake McGoon, was unmasked recently! The hulking hillbilly villain was actually played by frequent guest at The Rabbit-in-Hat Magic Shop, Rod Barrett, proof positive that when Rod wasn't practicing illusions he was busy honing his acting skills inside a giant muscle suit! (The photo of the toboggan style roller coaster is Earthquake McGoon’s Brain Rattler which my brother, and I enjoyed as kids!)

MAGIC SHOP CLOSED UNTIL AUGUST 25TH . . . in the meantime, we’re off on a new adventure! Headed to the oldest city in Georgia, founded in 1773, and home of the infamous PIRATE HOUSE . . . an authentic sailor tavern, operating since 1753, and mentioned in Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel Treasure Island. Underground tunnels run from the tavern cellar directly to the Savannah River. Historically, unsuspecting patrons who drank too much were dragged through the tunnels, and "shanghaied.” Everyone loves a classic pirate tale, even the New Orleans Saloon at The Magic Showplace pays homage to Pirates of the Caribbean with its golden pirate ship backdrop.
