The Motor city Irish Fest is an annual event that brings together The Irish and their friends to celebrate Irish Culture with music, dance, food & drink, exhibits and activities for children. in 2017, the 8th year of the event, we enjoyed twenty four Irish bands (see the music page for links to them), Irish dance groups, pipe & drum bands, Ring of Steel (stunt group from Ann Arbor – comedy, fire a

cts, swords, & audience participation) and an area especially for children of all ages. That kid’s spot featured tin whistle lessons, a kilted magician, story telling, beginning Irish dance lessons, arts and crafts, bounce houses, face painters and more. Great grub was found in abundance! You could enjoy traditional fish ‘n chips, corned beef sandwiches, pizza, burgers, ice cream among all the other tempting possibilities. For the more aged Irish Festival visitors, a favorite gathering place was Dunleavy’s Pub, Serving up Guinness, Smithwicks, Harp, and Bud Light. Whiskey tasting was also offered in the Pub. For those who like to shop and browse, there were so many booths set up that presented some of the finest Irish themed items such as jewelry, clothing, gifts, novelties and edible goodies. You can see a list of the 2017 vendors on the vendors page. A traditional Irish Mass was held on Sunday. All of the above took place on the grounds of Historic Greenmead, in Livonia. If you are familiar with the Annual St. Andrew’s Society Highland Games (where you can see the caber toss, stone put, hammer throw, etc) our Irish fest is found at the very same location a little earlier in the year. You can find out more about the exact location on the Location page. It was truly an excellent, memorable festival. But wait! We aim to top it in 2018!
