“A horse is not just a pet. Barrel racing is not just a hobby.

When the wind is whipping through my hair as we race toward the barrel, fully believing that with a couple of undetectable cues she will set and turn, I learn what trust is.

When I finally stumble inside after brushing, and braiding, and bathing, and icing, and wrapping, and patching, and feeding, and watering; I learn what sacrifice is.

When we round that final barrel and I ask her for all she has as we run home and she pushes herself to the absolute limit, I learn what partnership is.

When I tackle her neck and cry into her mane, and instead of walking away she turns her head toward me and nuzzles my arm, I learn what love is.

May we never forget what a privilege it is to call these magnificent animals friends and partners. When a horse enters your life you will never be the same.”

Horse training Myth: you need to keep them in a smooth O-ring as long as possible to keep them soft in the mouth.

Softness is taught by releasing when they give to the bridle, and helping them to understand what you are asking with your legs and seat. A lot of horses are not naturally soft enough to get a soft response with a smooth O-ring, so if you don't put a stronger bridle on them, you are essentially teaching them to pull on it.

Use more bridle if you cannot get a soft response with what you have on them, but be fair!!! You still need to give them release when they do the right thing. Then when they understand that they need to give to the bridle, a lot of times you can go back to a lighter bridle.

I LOVE my client horses. This sweet little mare has been with me for just over 45 rides. She’s soaking it all in and is going to be wicked! 😍 I’m blessed to have the opportunities I have to ride such cool horses!
