Liverpool Pinewood Derby Race

Liverpool Pinewood Derby Race A unique Adult pinewood derby race with serious competition and a one of a kind drag race. As much as I yearned to race I had no place to go. Be your own judge.

This race was created because I was a Father figure at the cub scouts pinewood derby and felt the urge to build a car and race and could not. Over the years I saved and kept moving forward on my goal. Now we have this cool race that everyone can have fun at. Here is some of the things I think make this race extra special. What makes our race over the top is we have a top-notch track setup. We have

a 4 lane Aluminum BestTrack setup with a champ timer, an electric start gate, and the entire setup is ran by a computer system. The start gate is controlled by a realistic and fully functional drag tree. The computer system fully manages the race and displays lineups and results on our 72” display screen for racers and spectators to enjoy. At the end of our raceway, we have an 8’ stopping track for the cars to stop. It was specially engineered by BestTrack to suspend the cars in the air by the body underneath and stop the cars using a state-of-the-art rubber that will stop them slowly but fast enough not to damage the cars. The entire track setup is suspended 18” in the air by aluminum legs that were designed by BestTrack. We also have nice trophies. I do not know of any other races that match the height and scale of our trophies. Our racers put in a lot of effort and deserve nice awards. We also have top notch food and snacks. We sell sandwiches that are packed with ham, turkey, or roast beef. We add a slice of cheese and have condiments available. We also have hot dogs for anyone not wanting snacks. I will not forget to mention our outstanding snacks and deserts. We have a special young lady who is educated in culinary arts. She bakes and donates all the snacks at our race. I can tell you that nobody has foods like this. Her foods are incredible. Look at some of our photos and you will see why. Another reason we have a unique race is we have a special race that we created called “The Pinks Race”. Each person gets 4 titles at the beginning of the race. Each racer lines their cars up on the track and each person controls their own start gate. They watch the drag tree and when the lit hits green you can release your own gate. You will red light if you hit early. Each time you lose, you have to turn in a title at the end of the track to pickup your car. When you are out of titles you are done racing. The last racer with a title wins. This is an edge of your seat event, even if you are a spectator. This is the most fun race we have. You can have a slow car and still win. Reaction time is that important. This race draws racers in from out of state it is so fun. Another reason is that we have an experienced pinewood derby committee who meets regularly to discuss the race. What did or did not go well and how can we improve? We also spend months preparing for each race. This team is dedicated. We ask our local business to contribute trophies to our event. This part of the preparation is hard work. Going out and getting the donations to make this race possible. Every one of our committee members are dedicated to making this race a success. At the end of the day all the monies raised from the race go directly 100% to the Liverpool EMS. It helps them buy supplies and new equipment as needed. The last and most important reason our race is so fun is all our racers are there to enjoy themselves. We have never had a racer act obnoxiously or in an inappropriate manner. Our racers are there to have fun and enjoy the day. We will enforce this if ever necessary. That is why we have racers who drive as much as 5 hours to attend this race. We welcome anyone who wants to race. There is some serious competition here. Come race with us and put your building and personal racing skills to the test. Matt

Hello everyone. I'm getting back to everyone about the electric driven race. We will be having it this fall in October again. I did consider limiting engine size. However that would not be a whole lot of fun. So the rules will remain the same. I will be taking steps to protect my timer on the track. If your car gets out of control before the timer it will meet a timely demise by striking something else. Also we found some better alternatives to try and stop the car. We will be asking spectators to move back during the race. A car traveling over 60 mph would hurt like crazy possibly even injuring you seriously if it hits you. We will continue only racing 2 at once. Have fun guys. See you in the fall.

After our race this weekend our team met and discussed the electric driven race. Given the extreme speed at which cars ran on our first run we are going to alter the rules a little. I do not know what those alterations are yet. We will be meeting with several racers and discussing some limits on the cars. We will not limit speed but we will limit size of motors on certain things. Problems of stopping the car and possibly safety of those around it have made us reevaluate the rules. New rules will be forthcoming in the next several weeks. We will be running this race again in October. The team felt this was a race worth continuing to do at our event. It was a lot of fun. We have a new plan for how to stop the cars and how to protect our equipment namely the timer at the end of the track in the event a car would go out of control and slam into it. So if you are planning on building a car between now and October wait a couple weeks to order motors and parts until I've released the new rules. A car that averaged over 60 MPH on my track did not use the fastest engine possible. I had no idea that technology existed when we set up the first rules for this race. I knew we would see fast cars but had no idea it was that fast. Hope everyone understands. I will be on here in the next couple weeks announcing plans for October. Thank you

What a race yesterday. Thank you to all those who came out to support us. I can't believe it's been 10 years. It has gone by so fast. We had an exciting lineup yesterday. We raced from roughly 1:00 to 7:00. Although we had fun all day long, I think the big thing was our all-new electric race also known as the Marlin Straub memorial race. Congratulations to Brian crebbs for shocking us with our first car off the line hitting an average speed of over 60 mph. A true 60 mile an hour. I can say that I have rarely been shocked by anything, but yesterday I was stunned. That was one of the most incredible things I've seen. Wow. Our next race will be October 17th of this year. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at the next race. Details will be forthcoming about our next race. Congratulations to Alex Moyer for winning are Pink's race once again. He's a tough one to beat. Also congratulations to Brady Wilkinson for winning our most comical box truck award.
