Showing appreciation towards the highly influential television series, The Twilight Zone, “The Host” showcases a well-dressed individual broadcasting a fictional episode called “Strange Stasis.” In this captured still of the episode, an arrogant astronaut finds himself trapped in a void web after venturing too far into space’s darkest reaches, despite the desperate warnings issued by his crew. Pressing against this invisible barrier only confirms his imprisonment, as Donnie Darko-like time bubbles ring around his wrists like phantom handcuffs. I imagine this episode serving as a warning to tame that strong sense of self many of us possess and to tread carefully into any territory of the unknown.
We can see by the otherworldly illumination of the tv antennas that this broadcast is on the verge of being intercepted by a powerful force, perhaps extraterrestrial. There’s an ominous air surrounding the glowing transmissions, one that engulfs the scene in anxious anticipation.
