August 16 , 2018 double celebration!
My little Kenny turned 9 years old today. My sweet boy born in Prague and came to Colorado when he was almost 3... we had 6 beautiful Birthdays celebration but this one is most special ...
on August 16 , I finished my first hand-painted icon Tenderness with celebration was just on August 10th !
I started painting at the end of June 2018 just when we open the Cafe du Coco !
I was looking for the right size of wooden surface and the spot for the icon to put in the Cafe as I wanted to demonstrate old traditions. I wanted a large size of wood so it could « speak up” from the distance.
By old Russian traditions in the mid of 1600 when Tea started to be one popular in the beginning of tea drinking ceremony it was common to say a prayer and mark yourself with the sign of the cross. There for then it was open many tea houses each visitor before entering a tea room prayed to the icon that was placed at the entrance hall and mark himself with the sign of the cross.

I find this icon last year visiting my Mom in Prague .
Mom told me the one of the original icons Tenderness start myrrh-streaming and by Orthodox tradition it traveling around each Orthodox Church around the world ! My Mom had honor to see that icon in one of the churches in Prague ! The image of it was my inspiration !!!!
The wooden board I used is over 120 years old , the top from broken tiny desk from grandfather of my dear friend Paul , who is also involved with Paint dubCoco production in Denver, CO
Here is the finished version I painted with my magic Paint du Coco chalk painting product
and many prayers during the miracle painting process .
This week the icon is going to Russian church for blessing and coming back to Cafe du Coco after. We will have a special ceremony at the Cafe and if you would have time we will happy you to be included on this special moment !
