While Granite Construction has begun recovering more than $9 Million worth of mineral aggregate under LACR's former pit area, focus for Valley drag racing enthusiasts has shifted to finding a site for a new dragstrip. City and county officials already miss the estimated $8 million Los Angeles County Raceway put into Valley cash registers annually in hot

el and motel, restaurant, gas station and auto parts receipts. The irrepressible Hillinger, whose primary job description should be raging optimist, said the two weeks since LACR's official closing have been more frenetic than funereal.
