Let’s talk law: Hairpins EDU is coming up on September 24 at The Nest, and we want you to leave this event with more than just vague legal information that’s actually really hard to understand (speaking from experience 😅 we had someone explain all of this to us, so now we’re explaining it to you!).

Our friends at JW Law will be on site at the LGBTQ+ Legal Rights & Preparednedness Workshop providing Healthcare Power of Attorney and General Durable Power of Attorney forms, with attorneys available to answer questions as you complete them.

We’ll also have two notaries and a witness on-site, so attendees can complete the necessary steps right there.

So what exactly does this mean?

A Healthcare Power of Attorney allows you to designate who you want making healthcare decisions for you if you’re ever unable to make them yourself. Without one, Arkansas law determines who may be able to make those decisions, something that can be particularly important for LGBTQ+ people whose chosen person may not be their closest biological family member.

A General Durable Power of Attorney can allow someone you trust to handle certain financial and other matters on your behalf, such as paying bills or accessing bank accounts.

Our goal with this event isn’t just to talk about the laws affecting LGBTQ+ Arkansans. It’s to make sure our community has access to the knowledge and tools to protect ourselves and the people we love!

We were so lucky to hear from House of gg: Family Gatherings Executive Director Tiommi Luckett (Tiommi Jenae Luckett) on sTiommi Jenae Lucketthip opportunities as q***r folks long before we feel ready!

Tiommi shared the impactful journey that led her to being picked by the legendary Miss Major herself to lead the next generation of House of gg and The Oasis, a place encouraging Black & Brown trans individuals to practice radical rest and relaxation 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ Tiommi emphasized the importance of finding and leaning on your q***r family when you are feeling low, because oftentimes they are the ones who see your potential to do amazing things even before you may be able to!

ST. LOUIS, WE WANNA GET YOU WET 💦😈

Hairpins is SO EXCITED to officially join in on our FIRST towergrovepride by bringing a slippery little fundraiser your way.

From 12-6pm on September 26, be a part of our Super SoakHER activation in Tower Grove Park: We’re looking for brave local business owners, nonprofit leaders, community organizers and all-around good sports willing to get absolutely drenched for a good cause.

Each volunteer will take a 30-minute shift in the Wet Seat, where Pride-goers can pay $5 for 30 seconds to absolutely soak you with a water gun.

Maybe they love you. Maybe you denied their PTO request once. Either way, they’re there to make you wet. 💦

And the wetter you get, the more money we raise: 50% of the proceeds from your Wet Seat shift will go to your organization or a nonprofit of your choosing, and the other 50% supports future Dropping Hairpins Project programming.

Volunteers can sign up for the Wet Seat now by filling out the form below. The wetter the better! See you in a month 💦🌈🔫
