This past weekend was a true Golden Lion takeover at MTCC! We kicked things off on Friday by hosting the Natural State Kickoff Classic Luncheon—an incredible way to launch the weekend. A huge thank‑you to UAPB Athletics for choosing MTCC as the host site and helping set the tone for an exciting few days.

Then came Saturday… game day! Team MTCC showed up in full force, and our director, Key Fletcher, had the honor of serving as an honorary co‑captain—taking the field for the coin toss and representing with pride.

Because at MTCC, we don’t just support the Pride… we’re part of it!

Historic Walking Tour: Stories in Stone III — A Night at the Cemetery

Join us for our next installment of our historic walking tours and learn about William Alexander, a former National Grand Master of the Mosaic Templars organization. Under Alexander’s leadership, the National Grand Temple on West Ninth Street and Broadway was constructed in 1912 and dedicated in 1913 with thousands in attendance — becoming a major commercial and community center in Little Rock during the early 20th century.

While digging through the archives, we came across a special handwritten note from former Mayor Lottie Shackleford celebrating our 5th anniversary back in 2013. Now—15 years later—we’re gearing up for our 18th anniversary!

🎉🖤 On September 18, we celebrate 18 years of preserving, interpreting, and celebrating Arkansas’ African American history and culture at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center!

Flashback to November 6, 2007, when our first director, Constance Sarto, was interviewed by KATV amid the rebuilding of the MTCC — the historic structure that had begun reconstruction in May 2006 after the devastating 2005 fire.

Less than a year later, in September 2008, the doors opened to a new era — one rooted in resilience, pride, and empowerment. Join us as we mark 18 incredible years of community, culture, and connection. ✨

Celebrating 18 Years of Mosaic Templars Cultural Center!

As part of our anniversary celebration, we’re highlighting Velvatex College of Beauty Culture—an important landmark in Little Rock’s history—and offering spa days for K–12 girls heading back to school.

Founded in 1926 by M. E. Patterson, Velvatex became Arkansas’s only state‑approved beauty school of its kind, helping move hairdressing from home kitchens into a formal educational setting. During the segregation era, Velvatex also served as a welcoming stop listed in the Negro Motorist Green Book, supporting Black travelers seeking safe places along their journeys.

To celebrate MTCC’s 18th anniversary, we’re excited to host a special spa day for girls returning to school. While you’re here, enjoy some ice cream and decorate a cupcake as part of the fun!
