The Litchfield Agricultural Society was organized in 1857 in Litchfield, Maine and held its first exhibition the next year. After a while the fair moved to the old "trotting park" which is now known as the Litchfield Fairgrounds. In 1904 after a period in which the annual exhibits declined, it was reorganized as the Litchfield Farmer's Club, that name continues to the present time. The Litchfield
Fairgrounds currently consists of fifteen acres & nineteen buildings. The annual Litchfield Fair is always held Friday, Saturday and Sunday after Labor Day. The 2017 fair dates are September 8th, 9th, & 10th. It is estimated that approximately 14,000 people attend this agricultural fair each year. There's an excellent Exhibition Hall with arts, crafts, flowers, cooked & canned food and fruits & vegetables. We also have a large 4-H Exhibition Hall and our Fair has received statewide recognition for these superior Halls. We feature show oxen & steers, dairy & beef cattle, horse & ox pulling, a powder puff pull, draft horse & pony show and a Maine Barrel Racers horse show. We are also know for having one of the best Old MacDonald's Barn and petting zoos in the state. Other events and attractions include "mutton busting", 2 crusted apple pie contest, a baby show, a kiddie tractor pull, pig scramble, antique car parade, children's bicycle giveaways, redneck truck pull, woodsmen competition, a museum, and a restaurant serving home cooked food. There are 2 areas for commercial exhibits as well as an excellent midway by Rockwell/Miller Amusements.
