Sensory Garden Playground

Children use play as a tool to learn about the world. Some play environments exclude children with disabilities. Let's create a play area for all kids!

As a cooperative effort of Wheaton Park District, Kiwanis Club of Wheaton, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, and Forest Preserve District DuPage County, a new garden/playground is being developed at Danada South Park. 15% of our children have some form of disability or learning challenge. Some may be physical limitations that are plain to see, while others are less apparent such as le

arning disabilities. The new playground proposes separate areas that allow children to progress at their own speed and focus on play activities developed to keep them engaged.

A playground is more than just a place to have fun outside – they offer a place where children learn to play side by side. On National Nonprofit Day, we thank the donors and visitors whose support helps the Sensory Garden Playground continue in its mission to provide an inclusive place where children of all abilities can play.

✨💙🔥 Wheaton Ignite is officially underway! 🔥🧡✨

Our CheerAbilities team, Wheaton Ignite, had their very first practice tonight, and our hearts are already so full! 💙 The smiles, excitement, determination, and team spirit were absolutely contagious.

We are beyond excited to watch this incredible group grow, gain confidence, and shine on the mat later this season. This is going to be such a special journey, and we can't wait to cheer them on every step of the way! 💫

Summer Saturday UPDATE

Our Beach Bash, originally scheduled for tomorrow, July 18 has been rescheduled due to the poor air quality. For the safety of everyone, we have RESCHEDULED the event to Saturday, July 25. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
