Not everything hanging in a “print rack” is actually a print.
Having completed years as a young person at Art students league a BFA at LIU Southampton, and an MFA at Pratt Institute. I am well aware of the difference between a print and a reproduction.
I have been a lifelong artist and I've been teaching it two days a week while working as an artist. I did not come to where I am now as a second career it has been my career.
As someone trained in printmaking — from lithography stones to etching plates and silkscreens pulled by hand — I still have enormous respect for the craft and the artists who dedicate themselves to it.
The only reproductions I carry are from a 20-piece series purchased by Spike Lee. Everything else in my rack is original artwork: studies, works on paper, mixed media pieces, and one-of-a-kind handmade work created in my studio...... paintings, collages, drawings, etchings, silk screens,… It's all there
Maybe that distinction matters less now than it once did, but I still believe reproductions should simply be called reproductions — not prints.
Also a great time to call out those who have inspired me and taught me, including two of my favorite mentors and lots of fellow college and grad school friends… None of us are self-taught!!! (Weston Press) .hogan.37454
And to the artists still covered in ink,
pulling real prints by hand… I see you. ❤️
