Here is the final piece in a series of paintings I have been quietly working on over the last few months but have been subconsciously working for a few years. It is of a drawing now but soon in the next several weeks it will be transformed into its own life.

Through these watercolors I have tried to bring to light the transformation that has taken place in my life—my near death experience, moments of struggle, reflection, surrender, and renewal.

It is my hope, and by the grace of God, that I may one day share this story on a larger scale.

My art has never been about money or recognition. What I have always loved most is the act of sharing—offering a small piece of myself through anything I worked on. Whether it was the handyman work or the artwork I have done in the late 90’s or more recent artworks. Many of my friends know that my doing and or my creativity has always been a part of how I communicate with the world.

Thank you 🙏 G.

My next drawing is part of a collection of still life watercolor paintings and their corresponding drawings.

This piece began during a recent small works challenge. For me, however, “small works” rarely become smaller than a standard sheet of paper—lol.

While working through the challenge, I found myself searching for subjects to build still life compositions around. I came across a simple bowl with calla lilies and began drawing from it, gradually embellishing the arrangement with elements of my own symbolism.

The calla lily itself carries meaning for me. It represents devotion and love, and I happened to draw this piece on the anniversary of my mother’s passing.

Movement is also something I often incorporate into my work. Even within a still life, nothing is ever truly still. There is always a subtle sense of motion and life within the composition.

Finally, the drawing reflects the presence of light and dark spaces that exist in all of our lives. Yet within those spaces there is always the suggestion of renewal. This is seen in the lily just beginning to open—emerging from its form as if from a womb—suggesting the quiet promise of new life.

As a result of participating in the library art challenge, I have managed to acquire the last few pieces required for my ongoing Still Life in Places series. I am now showcasing the first drawing out of three. The piece will be rendered on watercolor paper and worked on extensively in the subsequent weeks. God bless, G.

Today is the final day of the challenge.

To be honest, I’m a bit frustrated. When I get like this, I work. Those who know me well understand that I can be… intense. I recognize I need a break — time to step back and center myself — but at the moment there’s no real outlet. March is going to be challenging for that reason. I’m praying April brings the opportunity for a short weekend away to reset.

The positive in all of this is that I channel my frustration into something beautiful rather than something destructive. That, in itself, feels like growth.

Have a peaceful night, my friends. God bless. 😊

On the 27th day of the library arts center challenge, I created a piece for my mother, who I lost 9 years ago today. It's hard to believe that much time has passed. I love and miss her dearly, wishing she could see the transformation in my heart. ❤️

remaining dedicated to this endeavor. I utilized a stock photo of a bowl of muffins and berries, I modified the bowl to resemble a basket, finding solace in drawing baskets. The simplicity of wickerwork lends itself to a life of modest living.

Day 25 of the challenge.

I am finding this challenge to be a great way to create new work. Learning that a small scale approach will lead to expanded productivity later. In Gen X slang

Day 24 of the .

Lately, my focus has turned deeply religious in nature.

Today’s drawing is heavily influenced by the season of Lent and by one of the central reasons I chose to become a devout Catholic. As I prepared for my baptism, I could think of little else — not family, not friends, not work, and especially not art. My entire being was centered on this truth.

Body and Blood — Soul and Divinity.

I am grateful to still be here, alive and able to draw this piece. My desire to eventually paint it comes without anticipation or agenda — only reverence.

Take care,
G.

On the 23rd day of the library arts center challenge, I am sharing a reference photo taken by my ex-wife during our trip to Montana with her son Kyle, where she captured remarkable images from the co-pilot's seat, including one that secured second place in a photography contest. The photograph was taken nearly five years ago. I selected this particular image due to the striking contrast between the blues and browns. It will be interesting to see if I can create a landscape painting devoid of symbolism. Peace and blessings.
