Details matter.

The stitching. The beading. The embroidery. The layers. The tiny decisions we may never notice on screen.

Up close, a costume becomes something else entirely.

You see the hands behind it.
The skill. The time. The artistry.

Look closer. There’s always more to see.

Excited to announce the opening of the newest exhibit, “4 Common Corners Presents: Cottonwood,” at the Branigan Cultural Center from September 4, 2026, until January 2, 2027. The opening reception will be Friday, September 4, from 5pm to 7pm. Stop by the gallery to meet one of the featured artists, Lynn Welsch, of the 4 Common Corners group. Hear about the inspiration for the exhibit and gain insight into the creative process behind each piece.

4 Common Corners is a group of fiber artists drawn together by their shared sense of place, the Four Corners region of the Southwest United States. This upcoming exhibit features artwork from 12 members, each contributing a unique piece: Shannon Conley, Vicki Conley, Nicole Dunn, Diana Fox, Debra Goley, Betty Hahn, Bev Haring, Michelle Jackson, Anne Moats, Frances Murphy, Lynn Welsch, and Rosanna Lynne Welter.

Their newest exhibition features unique quilts inspired by one of the most recognizable symbols of the vibrant riparian ecosystem: the cottonwood. This exhibit calls for action to protect the biodiversity in our unique local ecosystems, while also reflecting on our deep and abiding connections to the environments and communities of the desert Southwest. I’m so excited to see my article, “A Tale of Two Quilts,” in the Autumn 2026 issue of Art Quilting Studio! 🎉
The article tells the very different stories behind Confetti and Deep Space Nebula: how each began, how they changed along the way, and how trusting the creative process led both of them somewhere I never quite expected.
One began with leftover scraps and eventually grew into more than 250 hours of hand stitching. The other grew slowly through layers of color, texture, and experimentation. Different beginnings, different journeys, but both are very much about that wonderful question that seems to drive so much of my work: “What if?”
There is something pretty special about opening a magazine and seeing your own work and words on the page. ❤️
Thank you, Art Quilting Studio, for giving me the opportunity to share the stories behind these two quilts.

Nothing says “trust the process” quite like cutting a hole in a quilt you’ve already spent many hours making. EEK! What could possibly go wrong?

A follow-up to my “crackle” dyeing experiment. Not the results I had hoped for, but fun nevertheless.

The day after I returned home from San Francisco, I took a scenic 4-hour drive northwest to Steamboat Springs, CO, to connect with the local Guild and lead a workshop. I truly believe quilters are some of the nicest people around because, once again, I was greeted with open arms. There had been a light dusting of snow the night before my drive, and the trees wore their white coats under a blue sky. I finally got to stay at the Bunny motel, which I had wanted to do since childhood.

I'm a little behind on sharing updates! In May, I had the wonderful chance to speak with the San Francisco Quilters' Guild. It was such a delightful experience, and the Guild members were truly kind and welcoming, making me feel right at home.
