We were delighted to participate in MakerFest and Nutrien’s Drone Challenge. Students had the opportunity to explore the drone technology, beginning with a brief training session before putting their new skills to the test. They navigated obstacles, practiced precision flying, and challenged their accuracy by landing drones in ArtSpace designed simulated fields.
What a great opportunity to partner with MakerFest and Nutrien to introduce young people to potential careers, encourage creative thinking, and provide hands-on experiences that make learning both meaningful and fun. We enjoy being part of programs that inspire the next generation to explore, create, and discover new possibilities.

October 10th is the birthday of Alberto Giacometti, a Swiss sculptor, painter, draftsman and printmaker, who was one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. October 9th is the birthday of Nicholas Roerich, a Russian painter, writer, archaeologist, theosophist, philosopher, and public figure. In his youth he was influenced by Russian Symbolism, a movement in Russian society centered on the spiritual. He was interested in hypnosis and other spiritual practices and his paintings are said to have hypnotic expression. Trained as an artist and lawyer, Roerich was a dedicated activist for the cause of preserving art and architecture during times of war. He was nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize. The so-called Roerich Pact for the protection of cultural objects was signed into law by the United States and most other nations of the Pan-American Union in April 1935.

October 8th is the birthday of Faith Ringgold, an American painter, writer, mixed media sculptor, and performance artist, best known for her narrative quilts. Ringgold's childhood home in Harlem was surrounded by a thriving arts scene where figures such as Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes and Sonny Rollins lived just around the corner. Ringgold has written and illustrated 17 children's books. Ringgold approaches complex issues of racism in straightforward and hopeful ways, combining fantasy and realism to create an uplifting message for children.

October 7th is the birthday of Jean-Paul Riopelle, a Canadian painter and sculptor from Quebec. He is best known for his abstract painting style, in particular his 'mosaic' works of the 1950s when he famously abandoned the paintbrush, using only a palette knife to apply paint to canvas, giving his works a distinctive sculptural quality. He became the first Canadian painter since James Wilson Morrice to attain widespread international recognition and high praise, both during his career and after his death. He was a leading artist of French Lyrical Abstraction.

October 5th is the birthday of Maya Lin, an American designer, architect, and artist who works in sculpture and land art. She achieved national recognition at the age of 21 while still an undergraduate at Yale University, when her design for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. was chosen in a national competition. In creating works which deal with the environment in decline, Lin aims to raise awareness for the environment for audiences in urban spaces. Born in Athens, Ohio, her interest in the environment stems from her upbringing. The Hopewell and Adena Indian burial mounds inspired Lin from an early age.
