Lima, Ohio used to be one of the loudest boomtowns in the entire state, and most people driving through today have no idea. 🛢️

In the late 1800s, oil was discovered in the Lima area and the town exploded almost overnight. Refineries went up, workers poured in, and downtown filled with grand buildings that were built to show off the money moving through the city. For a stretch of years, Lima was one of the biggest oil producing areas in the country.

Drive through downtown Lima now and a lot of that old architecture is still standing, but the boomtown energy is long gone. The buildings remain as a kind of quiet monument to a chapter of Ohio history that doesn't get talked about nearly enough.

Did you know Ohio had its own oil boom, or is this the first you're hearing about Lima's wild past?
