Thoughts and prayers going out to the family of Angel Morrison who passed due to complications from COVID. We spent many a Friday evening with Angel and her mother, Judy Perkins -- you all became like family and we grieve with you.

We can no longer compete with the numerous illegally-operated bingo halls in the area and, unfortunately, have closed our doors as of last Friday, April 14th.

We greatly appreciate the support of all of our patrons over the last three and one-half years and will certainly miss you –many of you have become like family that we looked forward to seeing every Friday.

So how can you spot an illegally-operated bingo hall? Here are a few of the regulations that we know are routinely violated:

**Winners must be paid by check**
**The maximum any one game can payout is $500 **
** The maximum that can be paid out in one night (total to all winners) is $2500 **
** Only one person can be paid to operate bingo –a maximum hourly rate of 1 ½ times the minimum wage and only for the hours at bingo. AND they must have been a volunteer for the charity for at least one year prior.

So why does it matter if someone attends a bingo that is operated illegally? Because it affects the charities that operate with integrity and that rely on bingo to support the non-profit’s programs. If those halls are willing to violate the bingo regulations and submit false audits to the state licensing board, consider where your funds are really going. Are they even supporting the charity? And what about the integrity of the charities that would allow such egregious behavior to occur at all.

From the NC Bingo Laws:
(a) The purpose of the conduct of bingo is to insure a maximum availability of the net proceeds exclusively for application to the charitable, nonprofit causes and undertakings specified herein; that the only justification for this Part is to support such charitable, nonprofit causes; and such purpose should be carried out to prevent the operation of bingo by professionals for profit, prevent commercialized gambling, prevent the disguise of bingo and other game forms or promotional schemes, prevent participation by criminal and other undesirable elements, and prevent the diversion of funds for the purpose herein authorized.
