This season features masters of their craft – artists who display unparalleled skill in their artforms, whether that be through modern composition, classical violin, multimedia storytelling, or free jazz saxophone. By the numbers, this season boasts four MacArthur “Genius” Fellows, artists from five different countries, and five more events in the Expansive Sounds Series, which has been catching a lot of attention for its open-eared unpredictability.

Calling everyone to the Concert Hall—it’s time for a LexPhil homecoming! 🎻

Opening Night: New World on Friday, September 18, ushers in the 2026–2027 season beginning with Clarice Assad’s “Baião 'n Blues”. Then, Lexington-native Ania Lewis returns to the Bluegrass for Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto. Finally, the evening closes with Antonín Dvořák’s inspiring Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”.

Whether near or far, join LexPhil as we usher in our 65th anniversary with a night of celebration and connection, together.

Three titans of free jazz unite for the first time as part of the Singletary Center’s Expansive Sounds Series. Joe McPhee (sax/voice), Ken Vandermark (reeds), and Chris Corsano (drums/percussion) have collaborated many times throughout the years in various configurations, but this is their first foray as a trio. Though the music from this new trio will be completely improvised and spontaneous, it will be informed by their collective histories, a background which includes decades of work with a variety of musical aesthetics and artists that has taken place during hundreds of concerts and dozens of recordings, at home and abroad.

Summertime at the Singletary Center is fairly quiet, a time for reflection and planning. But when thinking about the hum of rehearsals in the hall, audiences stoked for the new season, and iconic displays of artistry on stage? Yeah, we’re yearning for the fall semester! 🍂🎶
