Thank you LexArts, for welcoming Distilled Theatre Company in the garden last weekend for Arty Party: A Culinary Adventure Celebrating Arts Education along with other valuable community arts organizations. Without the impact of arts education, we would not have been able to produce almost four years of essential storytelling. For that, we are grateful. We continue. We create.

Keeneland Spring Meet visitors can join these Distilled Company members today as they kick off the day’s races with the national anthem at the internationally renowned racetrack. These siblings, Cole and Rae'Shawna of the Lexington trio The Campbells, have provided a "trademark" sound to Kentucky performing arts for more than 20 years. A celebration of Kentucky and a celebration of our artists, we are honored to have been a part of such a historical event. We continue. We create.

A celebration of arts education, Distilled Theatre Company members take a step into the garden this weekend at LexArts’ Arty Party. Since debuting in 2019, our company has committed to the contribution of arts education in our artists and we are honored to share and celebrate our talents with the city of Lexington in our kick-off performance of 2022. We continue. We create.

A message for a new year.

2021 presented a new challenge for all theatre companies. As a company we spent the early months of 2021 planning a safe and meaningful return to live performances. We felt strongly that our art should serve as a reflection of the world around us. In addition, we felt that gathering thousands of patrons in Woodland Park as we have in the past would not keep the safety of our artists and patrons at the forefront. This led us to produce an intimate outdoor production of Broadway Under the Stars at a smaller outdoor venue, The Grove. Utilizing local talent, music, original spoken word pieces, and American Sign Language this production was divided into three chapters; Injustice/Protest/Perseverance, Pandemic/Loss/Survival, and Healing. Distilled believes that theatre is more than entertainment. It has the power to activate change and provide a safe space for difficult discussions. To guarantee accessibility for all people we chose not to charge admission for our two live performances. This dynamic production of Broadway Under the Stars was filmed live to allow more opportunities for audience members unable to attend the chance to hear these essential messages.

Distilled Theatre Company believes that 2022 holds incredible potential for the theatre industry. As we continue to find safe ways to reconnect with our audiences, we must also learn from the obstacles we have faced over the past two years. It is our hope that we will see theatre become a more accessible, equitable, and honest platform for storytelling.

On this first day of a new year, we offer you these stories. The stories of injustice, and protest, and perseverance. The stories of a pandemic, of loss, and of survival. Through these stories we also share with you a path to healing.

On this Giving Tuesday, Distilled Theatre Company would like to thank a remarkable act of giving to our company by the Lexington-Fayette County Urban Government. Through their generous sponsorship, we were able to produce our recent production of Broadway Under the Stars: Tomorrow Starts Tonight at no cost to attendees, as well as a recorded version for our audiences that weren’t able to attend creating a truly accessible theatrical experience. Through this act of giving, we returned to the stage for the first time in over a year—our commitment to diverse, innovative, and reimagined theatrical experiences. Experiences that would not be possible without our circle of artists in this region.

Distilled Theatre Company would like to take this day as an opportunity to encourage you to give back to the very core of our talent and experiences—the Lexington arts community. Whatever arts organization your heart feels led to, remember: we continue, we create.
