Last year, we saw our lowest attendance numbers, despite showing only first-run movies. We even offered free weekday movies specifically for kids and saw fewer than 10 cars attend. Simply put, people were not showing up for many of the new releases.

Because of the naturally late summer start times (9PM), we were also seeing fewer kids and fewer returning families. Showing the same movie for multiple weekends in a row made it even more challenging to bring people back.

As a result, our Board decided it was time to return to our roots and try reaching a broader audience by offering different movies each weekend. As a nonprofit organization, we rely heavily on sponsorships, concession sales, and donations to stay open. We are constantly evaluating how we can best serve our community while ensuring the long-term sustainability of Hull's.

We've seen some comments on social media suggesting that we're showing "too many old movies." Factually, we've shown new-release movies for 5 of the 10 weekends we've been open this season.

Our Board and Movie Committee worked hard to create a lineup that offers something different each weekend, avoids paying the increasingly high costs associated with some new releases, and includes classic films that appeal to a wide audience.

And don't worry — we WILL show newer movies in July and later this season. We know change can be hard for some, but hopefully not too hard while you're laughing and smiling through these GREAT movies!

One last thing to mention: other drive-ins around the country are showing older movies as well and have very similar lineups of tried-and-true classics—classics that you can rarely catch on a big screen unless you’re at a drive-in. That's just what drive-ins do best!

Thank you for your feedback, your understanding, and most importantly, your continued support. We'll keep doing everything we can to bring movies under the stars to our community for years to come.
