Lexington Youth Theatre (LYT)

Lexington Youth Theatre (LYT) In a sense it's a microcosm of life --- attack with energy, don't give up, see it through to completion --- no matter how small or large your part.

"Yes, our goal is to educate the youth about theater," says Evelyn Harris, one of the founders of LYT, "but more realistically it's to teach kids that they can do something like this that's really hard work, but also fun. Sometimes the most captivating performer never says a word."

🎓Senior Spotlight: Ezakaya Salazar🎓

What was your favorite role at LYT?
My favorite role was Rudolpho.

Why did you join LYT?
I was encouraged by Katy and Caroline, the choreographer for Matilda, to audition. After that first show, I stayed because I found a place where I belonged.

What’s a favorite memory during your time at LYT?
Closing night of W***y Wonka.

Something you learned from LYT?
Don’t be afraid to connect with people.

After graduation, Ezakaya will attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Drama.

We are so glad Ezakaya took that first chance and decided to stay with LYT. Over the years, he has created incredible memories, built meaningful friendships, and brought so many memorable characters to life on our stage. We are grateful for the talent, dedication, and heart he has shared with our theatre family, and we can’t wait to see all he accomplishes as he begins this next chapter. We wish him the very best at UNCG and beyond.

🎓 Senior Spotlight: Makenna Hedrick 🎓

Makenna’s favorite role at LYT was the unforgettable Ms. Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical!

She joined LYT because of her passion for theatre, and along the way it helped her step outside of her comfort zone and build lasting friendships.

One of her favorite LYT memories happened during Mary Poppins tech week. While speed-running the show, Grayson suddenly decided to perform with a Southern accent, and before long the entire cast had joined in for the rest of the run!

One of the most valuable lessons Makenna learned at LYT was not to take herself so seriously. She realized that theatre is meant to be fun, and that letting go of the fear of embarrassment allowed her to truly enjoy the experience and grow as a performer.

This fall, Makenna will attend Catawba College to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre. After that, her dream is to perform on Broadway!

We are so proud of Makenna and all she has accomplished during her time at LYT. We can’t wait to see where her talent, passion, and determination take her next. Break a leg, Makenna! ❤️

🎓Senior Spotlight: Bryson Frick🎓

Bryson has been a valued part of the LYT family, and we are so grateful for the talent, dedication, and enthusiasm he has shared with us over the years.

Favorite Role: Uncle Henry

Why He Joined LYT:
Bryson originally joined LYT as part of a homeschool assignment and never intended to pursue theatre. However, after his very first show, he completely fell in love with it and never looked back.

Favorite Memory:
His favorite memory is the entire experience of his first show. The cast quickly became like family, and between an incredible group of fellow performers, his favorite director Bobby, and the roles he was given, it was an unforgettable experience.

What He Learned:
One of the biggest lessons Bryson learned through LYT was patience and the importance of being himself. He admits that he wanted to quit during his first production, but he was encouraged to stick with it. Looking back, he is incredibly thankful he did, as LYT helped him grow into the person he is today.

Plans After High School:
Bryson will be attending Queens University of Charlotte this fall, where he plans to major in Sports Communication.

Bryson’s journey is a wonderful reminder that sometimes the things we never expect can become the experiences that shape us the most. We are proud of all he has accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. Congratulations, Bryson, and thank you for being part of the LYT family. ❤️

🎓 Senior Spotlight 🎭

Meet one of our incredible LYT seniors, Addison Causey

Favorite Role at LYT:
“Fairy Godmother!”

Why I Joined LYT:
“A lot of my friends had done shows there and spoken highly of their experiences, and it made me want to do a show there!”

Favorite LYT Memory:
“Descendants opening night circle. I felt the love and support from every person there in that moment, and it was really important to me throughout the rest of the shows.”

Something I Learned from LYT:
“Go outside of your comfort zone! And always try, even if it’s not something you think you can do!”

Plans After High School:
Attending Elon University to pursue a BA in Drama and Theatre Studies while double majoring in Education to become a Theatre Educator!

Although this was Addie’s first show with us, she made a lasting impression on all of us. We are so proud of all she has accomplished and cannot wait to see where the future takes her. Thank you for sharing your talent with LYT! ❤️

🎓 Senior Spotlight: Meet Joshua Gwyn 🎭

Joshua joined LYT after taking a break from acting and wanting to get back on stage again. His favorite role at LYT was playing Chad in Descendants.

One of his favorite memories from LYT is all the fun shared in the dressing room during tech week. Through theatre, Joshua says he learned that when working with a group of people, everyone has to put in the effort, not just yourself.

After graduation, Joshua will be apprenticing in home building with Habitat for Humanity, and he hopes to attend business school in Fall 2027.

We thank Josh for sharing his talent with us at LYT, and we are so proud of all he has accomplished. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for him! 💙
