In 1824, Benjamin Barton and Joshua Fairbanks built the Frontier House in Lewiston — hailed as the finest hotel in America west of Albany. Its 30-inch stone walls, 15 fireplaces, and 4 grand stories hosted DeWitt Clinton, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and President McKinley. This crown jewel of Lewiston's historic district still stands at 460 Center Street, a witness to two centuries of American history.

Did you know? - Williamsville's namesake, Jonas Williams.

In 1811, Jonas Williams built a grist mill on Ellicott Creek that would give an entire village its name. A cultured gentleman from New Jersey with an excellent education, Williams invested his fortune in the Western frontier — constructing mills, tanneries, and dams that turned wilderness into community. The Williamsville Water Mill still stands as his lasting legacy.
