Not everyone can pack a room like Lisa MonaLisa Berman can! On behalf of Joseph Trần and BRKFST, thank you to each and every one of you that came to her benefit (nearly 300)!

A thank you to everyone! These words hardly encompass the gratitude we are feeling.

Because of you all (both in-person and from afar), we raised a significant amount of donations! 👏 You have given Lisa a confident and hopeful first step towards recovery, and she is determined to kick cancer’s ass once again! We will periodically keep people updated as much as Lisa is comfortable with. As she approaches very difficult moments, this gathering will be a wonderful reminder of the support from her communities and better times ahead.

Many of you know that Lisa is highly ambitious and has an exceptionally busy year ahead. She will proceed with everything she’s got and pivot if necessary!

BRKFST is reaching out for your support!

was unexpectedly diagnosed with cervical cancer last month and will be undergoing extensive abdominal surgery today. Lisa is an incredibly talented breaker, choreographer, and mentor of Minnesota’s dance community and despite her remarkable journey as a breast cancer survivor since 2009, she is determined to overcome this challenge once again. As a beloved figure in the dance world, let her know that she is not alone in this fight.

Join us for an in-person benefit event at on Wednesday, April 8th to support her recovery. We welcome donations, but Lisa truly wants to be surrounded by friends and family to celebrate life. All potential proceeds will be dedicated to post-surgery recovery, rehabilitation, groceries, bills, and basic needs. We are grateful to and her team for their generous donation of hospitality, space, and food.

A huge thank you to .theater.dance/ for having and in residence these last 2 weeks! Following our STORMCLUTTER performance, Lisa and Joe stayed on-site to teach breaking technique and guided students through BRKFST methodology to create a new piece. They loved that Bates wanted the repertory class to focus on collaboration, community and process—which is what we are all about!

We hope each dancer gained valuable tools and we can’t wait to see their performance this spring! A special shout out to .boy.dance and for their hospitality and partnership!
