THE PENNSYLVANIA STATUE OF LIBERTY:Most Pennsylvanians have driven past it without ever knowing the story. Standing on a stone platform in the middle of the Susquehanna River near Dauphin is a miniature Statue of Liberty with a history that's every bit as unique as the state itself.

It wasn't placed there by the government or a historical society. In 1986, a local resident put it there as a personal statement about liberty. Since then, floods, ice, and powerful river currents have knocked it down multiple times. Yet every time, locals have rallied to rebuild it and put her back where she belongs.

Over the years, the statue has become more than a roadside curiosity. It has worn a pink sash for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, become a landmark for train passengers traveling the river corridor, and quietly turned into one of Pennsylvania's most unexpected traditions.
No admission gate. No gift shop. No official designation.

Just a small Statue of Liberty standing in the middle of a river because a Pennsylvanian thought it should be there and generations of Pennsylvanians agreed.
