Just a little reminder that there will be NO dance classes next week, October 12–16, as we take Fall Break! 🍁✨

We hope our dancers and families enjoy a little extra time to rest, recharge, enjoy the beautiful fall weather, and make some memories together.

We’ll be back in the studio and ready to dance the following week! 🩰✨

🩰Tonight was the end of our Fall Adult Ballet session! These lovely humans were a joy to have in class. 😊 We had a fun workout while also improving body awareness, posture, and poise. Thanks so much to everyone who attended, and I look forward to dancing with you again in the future! 🩰

6 Things We Wish Dance Parents Knew — #4

✨ DANCE TEACHES LIFE LESSONS.

Yes, we’re teaching technique.
Yes, we’re building confidence and creativity.
But we’re also teaching something much bigger…

How to keep going when things get hard. 💜

Dance isn’t always perfect. There will be missed steps, difficult corrections, skills that take forever to click, and moments when a dancer feels frustrated or uncomfortable.

That’s where some of the most important learning happens.

Through dance, our dancers learn to:

✨ Try again after making a mistake
✨ Receive feedback and corrections
✨ Get comfortable being uncomfortable
✨ Stay consistent—even when progress feels slow
✨ Develop resilience and perseverance
✨ Understand the value of work ethic
✨ Take responsibility for their own growth

Those lessons don’t stay inside the studio.

They become part of who they are outside the studio, too. 🌱

Because someday, the ability to recover from a mistake, accept constructive feedback, work through frustration, and keep showing up will matter far beyond a dance class.

We’re not just teaching dancers how to move. We’re helping them learn how to grow. 🩰✨

Your experience level will help us determine how to structure the next session so everyone can have fun, learn, and be appropriately challenged.

✨PLAY IS PART OF THE PLAN.

If you peek into a younger dance class and see dancers pretending to be butterflies, hopping like bunnies, playing a movement game, or creating their own little dances…

Yes, they’re learning. 🦋🐰🩰

Play and creative activities aren’t “just for fun.” They’re intentional teaching tools that help young dancers develop coordination, musicality, balance, body awareness, listening skills, imagination, and confidence—all while keeping those little minds engaged and excited to learn.

And guess what? Older dancers benefit from creative learning, too! ✨

Sometimes the best way to learn a new skill is to experience it, play with it, and make it your own.

So when you see a little play happening behind the studio door, just know…
there’s a whole lot of learning happening, too. 💜

6 Things We Wish Dance Parents Knew — #2

🌱 GROWTH IS NOT A STRAIGHT LINE.

Sometimes progress looks like moving up.
Sometimes progress looks like staying right where you are, continuing to build your foundation and learning how to refine details.

It is perfectly normal for a dancer to remain in the same level for a year—or even several years. And that’s okay! 💜

At Defined Movement, we don’t view staying in a level as a punishment or a sign that a dancer “isn’t good enough.” Quite the opposite!

✨ We want dancers to build a strong foundation before taking on more difficult skills.
✨ We want their bodies to be properly prepared for what comes next.
✨ We want to help them grow safely, confidently, and sustainably.

That also means you may see dancers of different ages in the same class. That’s okay, too! Age is only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to dance development.

Our goal isn’t progress over perfection—it’s progress with purpose.

So please, don’t compare your dancer’s journey to someone else’s. Every dancer develops differently, and there is no single timeline for becoming a great dancer.

Trust the process. Trust the teacher. Trust your dancer. 🌱🩰

The goal isn’t to get to the next level as quickly as possible.
The goal is to be ready when you get there. 💜

These sweet faces are just a few of the big smiles we’ve been lucky enough to see around the studio this week—and honestly, they make our hearts so happy!

There’s something pretty special about watching a dancer walk into class with excitement, find confidence in their movement, laugh with their friends, and leave with an even bigger smile than they came in with.

Happy dancers = happy dance teachers. 💜

We hope your weekend is full of just as many smiles as we’ve seen in the studio this week!
