🌞 Our September exhibition, "The Eastern Shore," celebrates the environment we call home! In this showcase, three artists display artwork inspired by the DelMarVa region, presenting the area through their artistic eye.

One of those artists is Carole Böggemann Peirson, a Dutch artist who has been a professional oil painter since 2005 and is mostly known for her East Coast landscapes. A few life-changing events in 2020 caused a shift in her work from figurative to (semi-)abstract. Her ethereal works in oil & cold wax are inspired by the idea that all living things are connected and that we are spiritual beings having a temporary physical experience. She enjoys creating harmonious abstracted landscapes on cradled boards that invite the viewer to explore the intricate layers of colors and textures.

The process of applying layers of oil paint and wax and then uncovering previous layers results in an interesting balance between surprising effects and deliberate design. The paintings are meant to evoke emotions and memories through the use of visual elements. Carole hopes her love for life and her optimism about the future will shine through in her work and that the viewer will feel uplifted looking at it time and time again.

Carole’s work will only be at our gallery through September 27. Stop into the gallery to see these pieces in person or preview the show online at https://www.peninsula-gallery.com/the-eastern-shore

Jeff Watson makes wonderful decorative clay slabs that he frames for hanging. His 3-dimensional pieces are unique and unlike anything else in our gallery!

Here's how he makes the designs on the slabs that bring the pieces to life:

“I apply a white glaze on the pieces and let it dry overnight. I draw each fish onto the glazed pot with a very soft pencil. Then I apply an oil-based wax resist around the fish where I don’t want color, as well as inside for detail - fins, scales, eyes. I let that dry overnight. Then I apply several coats of a black commercial underglaze, and clean up any spatters with a sponge. Then it goes into the kiln for final firing.”

Stop into the gallery to see Jeff’s beautiful works in person. They’re hanging right by the front desk. Visit Jeff’s page on our website to learn more about him and his work: https://www.peninsula-gallery.com/jeff-watson

We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded Best Gallery in Delaware by the American Art Awards!

Each year, the American Art Awards board chooses the best galleries across America. Selections are based on years established, industry reputation, online buzz, location, size, socially relevant exhibitions, represented artists, as well as artist, client, and visitor references. The Peninsula Gallery is one of two Delaware galleries recognized for this prestigious award (the other being The Delaware Contemporary in Wilmington).

It's especially exciting to earn this honor during our 30th year in business! We're so pleased to represent Delaware and Lewes' artistic community on a national level! Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 30 years!

Two beauties, gazing across the room at each other…

These stunning charcoal and pastel paintings are from Sydney McGinley, who is known for her exquisite, Mary Cassatt-style portraits. Sydney says of her work:

"My inspiration comes from the desire to convey good design and draftsmanship. I find that soft pastels allow me to draw and paint simultaneously. For several years my subject matter has been the human form. I prefer placing the figure in an environment and to work in a series in order to develop one idea more completely.

I draw to discover anew the elements that resonate from the carefully designed and composed plan developed for the next painting. This action explores and confirms my initial interest in the forms. I look for unification in straight lines, arabesques, and enclosures."

🎸It was an honor to frame these photos of our clients’ 1830s René Lacôte guitar.

Our client was so thrilled to purchase the historical guitar that her friend took these stunning photos of it. She decided to have a piece framed for each of her homes.

While these photos needed to live harmoniously in her homey spaces, we wanted to treat them like museum pieces. Our goal was to preserve the documentation of this artifact with understated presentation and museum-quality materials.

Using our knowledge of color theory, we decided the rich warm tones of the guitar with this navy mat make a fantastic pairing. To maintain an old-world style, we chose a linen mat and an Italian-made frame with cherry veneer. We also had custom plates made to show context and add that museum touch. The last piece of the puzzle was our top-grade glass. The glass is both 99% UV protective and has a film to make it virtually invisible.

This design is inviting enough to display at home, yet refined enough to hang in a museum. Learn more about our framing capabilities on our website: www.peninsula-gallery.com/framing-conservation

OPENING THIS SATURDAY!

From August 29 to September 27, Carole Böggemann Peirson, Lynne Lockhart, and Kirk McBride will display artwork inspired by the DelMarVa region, presenting the area through their artistic eye. While each artist has their own technique and subject matter, their painterly style and sense of light unify the collection. These paintings aren’t realist or abstract; rather, they use impressionistic methods and tactile elements to give the beauty of our environment an aesthetic flair.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, August 29, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, which is free and open to everyone. Join the gallery staff and exhibitors for an evening of fine art and complimentary food and drink. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle with some of the show’s participating artists.
