Laura McGowan recently delivered us these STUNNING waterscapes!

Recalling her love of the ocean and the endless summer days spent watching the waves, she began painting seascapes, capturing both the calm and the revitalizing feeling of a day at the beach.

McGowan paints mostly alla prima, or “wet on wet”, although she may also spend days going back over and over a painting to achieve the effect she wants. She is drawn to many styles of art but is most influenced by the artists of the Barbizon School, such as Daubigny and Courbet, as well as the American Tonalists George Inness, Charles Warren Eaton, and James Whistler.

These pieces from Laura are available to purchase from the gallery! Get all the details about this work from Laura on our website: https://www.peninsula-gallery.com/laura-mcgowan

Our June exhibition features abstract work from seven artists utilizing paper, mixed media, and fabric collage. One of those artists is a repeat exhibitor at our gallery, Julia Graziano.

Julia is a contemporary artist from upstate NY and Cape Cod, who brings the excitement of exploring shape, design, color, and texture to her collage work. As a fiber artist, Julia uses collage to inspire her large art quilts. She plays with fragments of cloth and found and hand-painted paper. While Julia is working, a conversation begins to take place between the line and shape, to which she responds.

The artist reception for "Abstract Construction" takes place this Saturday from 5:00-6:30pm, which is free and open to everyone. Please note that the reception will take place the weekend after the show opens. Some of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance, giving the patrons the opportunity to mingle with the collective. Complimentary food and drink will be provided during the opening.

OPENING TODAY! Our June exhibition features abstract work from seven artists utilizing paper, mixed media, and fabric collage.

Included in the show is Elizabeth Brandt, a Michigan-based mixed media artist!

Elizabeth is a former graphic designer who worked in advertising and illustration until she began working as a full-time artist in 2010. Elizabeth creates abstract sewn and collaged work using stitching as an expressive element, one that doesn’t just hold the elements together but adds texture, color, and dimension, resulting in sculptural pieces. Elizabeth was recently featured in the book Cloth: 100 Artists by Lena Corwin.

While "Abstract Constructions" officially opens today and is available for all to see, the artist reception, where some of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance, will be held next week, on June 6!

Joe Milligan's stormy beach scenes are pretty reminiscent of the weather we've had recently.

Joe's watercolor paintings evoke a sensitive and emotional sense of time and place. He attributes this to a keen sense of observation, the subjects and their surroundings. In Joe's paintings, you can find beauty in the overcast skies.

While we hope the summer season doesn't always look like Joe's paintings, we do love his moody scenes! If you have a taste for atmospheric art, Joe is definitely one to check out! Visit his page on our website to learn more: https://www.peninsula-gallery.com/joe-milligan

Our June exhibition features abstract work from seven artists utilizing paper, mixed media, and fabric collage. One of those artists is a repeat exhibitor at our gallery, Peggy Black.

Peggy Black is an artist from southwestern Pennsylvania. She makes art using fabric — vibrant, original wall quilts — inspired by color, value selection, and abstract patterning. Peggy describes her practice of surrounding herself with cut-out, torn, and found papers, with snippets and remnants of fabric. She arranges and rearranges the little parts until they become stories in her imagination.

"Abstract Constructions" officially opens this Saturday, May 30th, but the artist reception will be held next week, on June 6!
