🎻 More Than an Orchestra. We're Your Neighbors.

During our Ritmos Latinos concert weekend, Jenny O'Connor from Delmarva Public Media joined us to capture something that makes SODELO truly special: the people behind the music.

What began as a handful of musicians coming together in 2022 has grown into a 75-member orchestra, bringing together people of different ages, backgrounds, and walks of life, all united by a love of music.

From our Music Director James Allen Anderson sharing his vision for a community orchestra, to 80-year-old violinist Cecilia Rebecca Conway reflecting on her lifelong love of music, this wonderful piece tells the story of who we are.

We're not just musicians sharing a stage. We're friends, neighbors, students, teachers, and community members who believe that music has the power to bring people together.

SODELO's mission is to make live orchestral music accessible in our area. We are thankful for Sussex Central High School (SCHS) for hosting our Ritmos Latinos Concert in Georgetown, DE.

We are especially thankful for Dr. David Carter, SCHS' Principal, Ben Ables, Band Director, and his students, who helped make us feel welcomed, setting/striking the stage and sound/lighting production!

HEAR A GUITAR VIRTUOSO LIVE - guest artist Dr. Celil Refik Kaya.

He is the youngest-ever First Prize winner of the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition, and is a three-time Guitar Foundation of America prizewinner and Naxos recording artist.

He joins SODELO for Rodrigo’s breathtaking Concierto de Aranjuez this Saturday in Georgetown and Sunday in Lewes.

SODELO isn’t an orchestra that just comes here to perform. We’re from here. Most of our musicians are your neighbors, friends, coworkers, teachers, parents, retirees, and fellow community members.

✨ Why does Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol still dazzle audiences nearly 140 years after its premiere?

Inspired by Spanish folk melodies and dance, this brilliant orchestral showpiece is full of color, energy, and unforgettable solos. Rimsky-Korsakov first imagined it as a violin-centered work, but the piece grew into something even more exciting: a showcase for the entire orchestra.

From shimmering strings to bold brass and sparkling percussion, Capriccio espagnol is the kind of music that reminds you just how thrilling a live orchestra can be.
