There is something especially beautiful about a maternity session that is really a family session at heart.

A new home. A toddler very much at the center of their days. And a new member of the family on the way. So many reasons to celebrate!

Following the little one’s pace, I focused on what their life is like as a family of three before they become four.

Soon, the rhythm of this home will change making these photos that much more meaningful.

This session is the newest part of my Featured Families series. You can find it through the Featured Families link in my bio.. 🤍

If you are expecting and hoping for photos that feel authentically you, I’d love to hear from you. 🤍

Four might be one of my favorite ages to photograph.

There is this wonderful push and pull between shyness and a sudden, very serious desire to be seen. One minute they’re keeping their distance, quietly figuring me out, and the next they’re jumping on the bed, showing me their favorite toys or curling up beside me because they absolutely need to see the shots I just took of their silly faces.

I love all of it.

There was such an ease to this morning. No one was forcing him to perform for the camera. He could wander in and out, take a break, come back when he was curious and decide for himself when he wanted to be part of what was happening.

And because of that, the photographs feel like him.

That’s one of the things I love most about a documentary approach to family photography. I’m not looking for children to give me a particular version of themselves. I want the shy moments and the silly ones. The independence and the sudden need to be close. The big energy and the quiet curiosity. All of these versions are part of their story.

Part Two of this family’s newborn session in Hoboken.

This little angel was just nine days new. Her wonderfully energetic four-year-old big brother moved in and out of the frame at his own pace and their morning spent at home unfolded exactly as it needed to.

Shifting between quiet moments and silly ones, nursing and diaper changes, we embraced the pauses and I captured their beautiful story, one that is rich and layered with love.

Of course, your beautiful, newest addition is the main focus. But, your heart will want to remember so much more. I’m here to help you remember.

If a family newborn session like this resonates with you, I’d love to hear from you. ❤️

This session will be shared in parts with this being Part One. Part Two will be out soon. If you’re curious to see more now, click the My Work link in my bio and it will take you straight to this family feature. 💕

Life has been wonderfully full lately.

Two of my children graduated, one from high school and one from college. I’ve been soaking it all in and it’s been emotional.

In the midst of life, I’m grateful for so many things including all of the incredible families I’ve had the privilege of photographing this summer thus far. All of you are a dream!

I recently came across a post about going back to the days when we shared just one image at a time.

So tonight, I’m sharing just one to serve as a tiny glimpse of what I’ve been working on. Thank you so much, Taylor family, for the honor of capturing your beautiful family.

And if you’re wondering, I deliberately shot this frame to include dad’s hand by the faucet. Its value isn’t visual, it’s part of the narrative of the moment.

Rose Allen Taylor Jeff Taylor Such an honor!!

More from this beautiful summer soon. 🤍

☀️It’s here: the summer session for extended family and friends. ☀️

The lake house you’ve returned to for years.

The beach vacation everyone looks forward to all winter.

The cousin table at dinner.

Ice cream after sunset…

The annual trip where grandparents, siblings, lifelong friends, and growing children all find themselves together in the same place once again.

And so often, the person working hardest to create those memories is the one missing from the photographs.

That’s why I created the Summer Vacation Collection.

A storytelling experience designed for families and friends spending intentional time together during annual vacations and seasonal traditions. So you can put your phone away, be fully present, and trust that the moments unfolding around you are being preserved.

Some moments only happen once a year but they’re worth remembering.

Now booking Summer 2026 + 2027. Serving NJ and beyond.

I think I’ve found it. Finally.

Motherhood on Film project update:

I’m at the point where I’m wondering if I’ve spent years trying to edit digital photographs into a feeling that film gives naturally.

I was so surprised to see how the photos on film turned out.

The colors (look at this natural warmth!)
The internal blur (which I love, the first image is so dreamy!)
The way ordinary moments suddenly feel remembered instead of photographed.

I can’t fully explain it yet but I’m becoming convinced this is the direction I’ve been looking for all along.

Now I want to shoot every type of film I can get my hands on. I’m not chasing trends, it’s a feeling, and I want more of this.

I’m so grateful for my first Motherhood on Film subjects and baby Nell. I’ll be reaching out this week to those of you who have expressed interest in experimenting with me. If you are interested please reach out! 🤍

I’d love to know which of these you like best!

Honoring mothers is what I love doing most. Last year, I shared something small for the families who come back and for this Mother’s Day (just around the corner!) I’m doing it again.

It feels a little like a tradition now.

As a thank you, I’m holding a returning family gift, a $200 credit toward any 2026 collection.

Not as a promotion, but just something a little more personal.

A way of honoring the trust, the connection, and the stories we’ve already started telling together.

If I’ve photographed your family before, this is for you.
If you’ve been thinking about documenting this chapter,
I would love to photograph you again.

Please DM, call/text/email to schedule your session.

Happy Mother’s Day (soon!)
🤍,
Tammy
