📣Attention Southern Maryland! The September Gallery Exhibit is here!

📆Open until September 26th. Come visit the SoMD Photography Community Gallery Wall at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council Gallery & Gift Shop, Wednesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm.

👉 This month’s gallery, Night Sky, shows the beauty that comes alive when the sun goes down and our community turns its cameras toward the sky.

🫶 The night sky can feel peaceful, mysterious, powerful, or even otherworldly. From stunning star trails, the milky way, and the glowing moon, each photograph captures a different reason to pause, look up, and take in the wonder above us.

❤️ This exhibit brings together five Southern Maryland photographers sharing their own view of the night sky. Stop by the gallery and experience the moments they captured after dark. You may leave inspired to look at the sky a little differently the next time you step outside.

St. Mary’s County Arts Council Board of Directors President, Eric Jackson, recently completed the 2026 Artist in Residence at the University of Michigan Biological Station, where he expanded his focus from the mid-Atlantic to the Great Lakes region and beyond, encompassing an entire North American flyway.

“Since 2018, the University of Michigan Biological Station has welcomed 11 artists of all mediums to explore their work through live-in residencies at its more than 10,000 forested acres surrounded by lakes and rivers.”

Well done, Eric!

Eric Jackson, an artist from Maryland who combines wildlife illustration with fiber arts, is drawing inspiration from migratory birds and fish in the Great Lakes region during his 2026 artist residency at the University of Michigan Biological Station.
