Many people are not aware that I have been a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music thru the Music Teachers National Association for many years.
This week I had the honor of reviewing and evaluating a certification project for an applicant for the MTNA. There is some good teaching going on out there!

What is one important skill to develop for Sight-reading?

This improves rhythmic accuracy, focus (so you get more correct on the first reading), and ability to see what is coming up before you miss it.

Last weekend, my student Cindy won the Senior Solo Woodwinds division of the Tennessee Music Teachers Association State Auditions! She prepared a 22 minute program of diverse pieces to take the top prize. She plays so beautifully. And a special bonus... since I am the state coordinator for the winds auditions, I got to present her with her winner's plaque.
