The Timbersmithery is filling up with work in progress. We’re simultaneously building a trio of guitars with a new set neck design inspired by the excellent Gibson Explorer, along with a special project for a special Dead Head.
At the same time, a quarter of the shop is being taken over by my daughter’s passion for abstract art, which I absolutely love. No less than two of the new Explorers will feature unique oil paint tops, with more artistry on the way for future builds.
Not sure how many more guitars we can finish before the end of the year, but we’re gonna find out!

2000 volts AC: because working with relatively rare wood species, unusual metal alloys, and resins which require a nearly perfect vacuum isn’t challenging enough... 🤪
After multiple tests, we finally deployed the Lichtenberg fractal generator on a fully shaped guitar. Yes, it was terrifying… but the result speaks for itself.
Many people say fractal burning is easiest in softwoods, so of course we used a nearly extinct hardwood (white ash) to make things more unpredictable. It’s the Mud Mountain way, after all.

IYKYK; “Son of Swamp Thing” left the Mud Mountain shop today, on its’ way to find a new home. Right now she can be found on the north wall of BCR Music & Sound in Lemoyne, PA.

This one of a kind Esquire-influenced model boasts a solid white oak body capped with a book-matched resin & birch rot-top, a one piece ash neck and a walnut/ash fretboard laminate featuring a one-of-a-kind inlay that you won’t find anywhere else. Under the hood is a Seymour Duncan Little ‘59 mini humbucker with series/parallel/split coil routing. Very touch sensitive and articulate, she plays like a dream!

Get on down to BCR and take it for a spin, you probably won’t be disappointed! 🤪

One 10’ log half + HM130 Max sawmill + work = a wonderful Mothers Day present! Yes, it’s a little early, but there’s never a better time than now. This planter was inspired by an Amazon product that my wife found, but of course at Mud Mountain we take it to the next level! 💪
This beauty is constructed from 100% white oak grown on site and harvested responsibly. The finish is Marine spar varnish, which when combined should last a lifetime or two.
It isn’t light, and it wasn’t easy, but it will make springtime memories for a very special lady. Also, it’s Henry approved!

Sliced up some walnut veneers for the next guitar build, and probably a few future builds as well. I imagine you wouldn’t expect a sawyer to use a dial calipers, but with the Woodland Mills HM130MAX, we can make veneers thinner than 1/16”!!!
