Paint Party #1 of 2026 is a wrap!!

These party-goers came out to my public event hosted by Consciousness Coffee Shop owner, Jason Rounds, and It was a fabulous time. My only wish is that we had twice the amount of time together!

To kick this off, Jason and I sat together for an hour or so and developed the concept for his painting…. it was a challenging piece to pull off in two hours but he was determined to TRY, and with that attitude, all I could do was try my best as well.

And that is what we did.

AGAIN Two hours is not nearly enough time for a complex painting like this. But this group was on fire. They dove right in and made great progress, mixing their own colors and testing out different brushes. A few even took paint home to continue working. That truly warmed my heart. Ah, Beginnings.

I really do love teaching - guiding - demonstrating - and mostly, cheering people on.

You have to start somewhere, and that somewhere usually begins with what i call
.ugly art…

I love ugly art. I really do.

“Miss, we can tell it’s no good from the look on your face. When its good, you barely look at it, Ok” “But when its no good shes gives the ‘Well just let me take a look here!’ Fr Miss, we know what you’re doing.” - side eye from former HS students calling me out infront of the class lmao (who in every memory only ever referred to me as “Miss”)

kids are brutal - they show you who you really are. Theres no question that i am moved by potential… anyway; ugly art:

It’s humbling to be at the beginning stages of something. To make something so bad you gag at it. When you can look at your own garbage and say - I can do better and try again - that’s resiliency. That builds character. And we should all keep building our character.

NOW TELL, if you could paint anythinggg what would YOU want to paint?!?! and if you could paint with anyone, who would it be with?!

Under the landscape is a whole other world of color interplay.

I was feeling overwhelmed by the movement in this as an abstract painting

so I made a very bold choice to glaze the entire painting

Red.

Ugh. I mean, i wanted red, but…

Have you ever regretted a decision as you are actively making it?

I have. I did. And I was. And I kept going. I kept glazing. I glazed the entire thing. I could feel the war raging inside of me as i went from one panel to the next, to the next, to the next.

and I immediately sprayed it with water and started scrubbing it off.
Furiously.
Hopelessly.

Utterly ruined 😭
what was will never be again.

In an effort to flip the script, I slapped blue paint on it. Here, there, there.. and: i still Hated it so I wiped it off.

💡😏 Kind of like what happened when I wiped it off though. The whole vibe went from hell hound express to moooody

exhausting.
I went to bed.
And woke up half crying that I ruined all of my paintings

Such a silly goose lol

when I looked at them again this morning, they were completely different than in my dreams. Very moody, yes. But beautiful nonetheless.

I don’t know what the other 3 panels will become yet… ill keep playing around

Somethings cant be rushed.

While I am replicating the same design on each of these 12 pieces, each wave is as unique as the shells are individually. The stands holding them up are also hand-bent copper, customized to fit each of them. 12 excited Thank Yous to my supportive husband for his skilled contribution!
