Today's Session Snapshot comes from one of our newest A Place To Be participants, Lachlan, and his music therapist Grace! Lachlan's sessions are all about finding creative ways to express himself. Whether it be through music, art, or creating games, Lachlan's sessions give him the opportunity to be himself while working on his goals.

Direct from our Hall of Hope at A Place To Be, Jimmy shares with Brandon the profound impact music therapy has had on his life, and how music got him through a recent, intense hospital stay. Many in our community will recognize Jimmy from his inspiring, multilingual performances at our galas and recitals, and for volunteering at many APTB events. Thank you Jimmy, for sharing your story, and always being such an amazing spokesmen for music therapy, the importance of inclusive performance, and A Place To Be!

Today we celebrate Stephen Smith, who wrapped up his time with A Place To Be this past week!

Stephen first joined us as a camp mentor, before completing his music therapy internship and becoming part of our full-time direct service team. Over the years, Stephen has brought his creativity, compassion, and sense of joy to so many in our APTB community. From a camp leader, to a performer in our educational touring shows, to helping spearhead our on-site recording studio, supporting clients in music therapy, and much more, Stephen's passion and creativity have had a profound impact on every individual he's served, and on A Place To Be as a whole.

Please join us in celebrating Stephen and wishing him continued success in whatever comes next!

It's APTB staff retreat week! As our team gets ready for the fall semester, our music therapists are coming together to share approaches, cadences, and musical tools that best support our clients.

Throughout the year, we make space for trainings, masterclasses, and brainstorming sessions like this one to make sure we're always bringing our best to the people we serve!

A recent study out of Australia explores the correlation between music and a lowered likelihood of dementia. Of the over 10,000 adults over 70 involved in the study, those who engaged with music regularly (listening, singing, or playing an instrument), experienced a 39% lower likelihood of developing dementia compared to those who rarely listened to music.

"Previous studies show it improves processing speed, language, memory and coordination[...]Plus, it often involves socializing with others, which helps protect brain health."
