Centuries ago, deep within the primordial forest, a dark cult performed a macabre blood ritual to bind an ancient entity to the earth. The spell went awry, sealing the malevolent force inside the soil. For generations, the land lay dormant and forgotten. The ritual's black magic slowly oozed into the roots, poisoning the surrounding swamps and soaking deep into the subterranean water table beneath the trees.

As the years passed, the forest receded and modern civilization claimed the land. Unaware of the ancient evil buried beneath their feet, a local farming family built their homestead right over the old water table. Pumping the tainted well-water to nourish their fields, they unknowingly brought the dormant curse back to the surface. The infected water mutated the pumpkin patch into parasitic, flesh-eating horrors that seized control of the farmer and his family.

To celebrate the autumn harvest, a traveling carnival set up on the neighboring lot, serving drinks and treats made from the farm’s corrupted water. Now, the ancient evil flows through every inch of Hardwood Lane, twisting clowns, farmers, and foliage into one seamless nightmare.
