In case you haven’t discovered yet I am obsessed with watercolor supplies. I just bought this Luchetti 8x8”sketchbook, 100% cotton, 300 pound paper. It’s going to be perfect for a plein aire painting. It lays flat and I’m attaching a little video so you can also see how great it is. . And I apologize for mispronouncing the name as Luchetti when it is actually.Loo-KE-tee

How cute is this travel palette? It might travel only from my studio to my living room until weather permits outside painting but I couldn’t resist. It is set up to hold 12 paints, I put in a mixture of cool and warm colors. I noticed the rows were loose so I added an extra pan to each row and it worked. Now I have 14 paints as soon as the extra empty half pans come. Happy painting, Everyone!

Why is it I come into the studio with definite plans to put together the supplies for the April Lifelong Learning watercolor/colored pencil class and I get distracted? First, I opened a Youtube video to keep me company (yes, I like to have someone else painting while I'm in my studio.) Of course, this alone is distraction enough, but then I get ideas to change the already prepared pencil draft for the students; not only the drawing but also the colors and process we will use. Two hours later I have most of what I need changed and re-printed. But I do feel it is going to be much better, so in my procrastination, new ideas came to mind to improve the process and the outcome. I’m painting with different paints, paper and style just to mix things up a bit. This is done with Shinhan watercolor paints and Academy 140 lb 100% cotton watercolor paper . 5x7”. Reference is mine. I grew up in the country and always wanted to paint this scene near where I lived.

This was a fun watercolor class held at the Sioux City Art Center and taught by Paula Crandell. Zen Botanicals in watercolor and ink. I learned a lot about letting the paint do its own thing. I usually paint so tight and realistic that I found this a challenge.

I need to take a break, possibly forever, from colored pencils. My wrist and arm hurt after only about 30 mins of working with them and I don’t want carpal tunnel surgery So, I’ve been concentrating on watercolor, which takes much less pressure, for animal portraits. This is my daughter’s cat, Jade, who passed over that rainbow bridge this week. This is the experiment to address my obvious problems before I paint the 10 x 8” real one later this week.
