Still looking for an apprentice.

Tattooing is easy.

You just have to:

Design and plan tattoos at night or early in the morning.

Get to work 30 minutes to an hour before your client to prepare.

Set up your station.

Break everything down and disinfect it.

Keep your station and work area clean.

Take good photos and videos.

Run multiple social media accounts and post constantly.

Answer a ton of inquiries that aren’t serious just to find the few people who are actually ready to book.

Schedule appointments.

Collect deposits.

Order supplies.

Keep track of your inventory.

Handle cancellations and rescheduling.

Keep up with licenses, certifications, bloodborne pathogen training and health department requirements.

Study new techniques.

Practice when you aren’t working.

Maintain thousands of dollars worth of equipment.

Deal with difficult clients without losing your professionalism.

Manage your money, taxes and insurance.

And somehow keep your creativity alive while turning it into a career.

The good news is that once you’re well established, you can usually cut those 12 to 18 hour days down to six to eight hours.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, you still have to tattoo.

So if an apprenticeship sounds like too much work because you aren’t getting paid yet, I have some bad news about what happens after the apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship at Avenue also includes training on how to run a shop alone, with other artists or with employees.
