As way of getting you excited about tonight's Nerd Nite (and future Nites), co-boss Will has prepared this helpful FAQ:
NERD NITE FAQ
What's Nerd Nite - Lawrence, you say?
Simple, I reply, it's the most cost-efficient way to learn obscure facts about random topics to make yourself seem infinitely more erudite and smart and stuff.
Why should I come to Nerd Nite?
To learn not only about new and amazing facts, but to see people talk about things that they are passionate about. And that, my friends, is well worth the price of admission.
WHat's the price of admission?
1 American Dollar. But before you complain about "In This Economy?" remember that you can't put a price on knowledge, AND you also get entered into a raffle, so not only are you supporting the Nerd Nite community, but you could also win valuable prizes.
Will my family like it?
It's generally PG-13 to light R in langauage and content, and with our new 7:30 start time, you could get the whole family home by 10, not bad for a weeknight! I'd say 13+ if you want them to sit through the whole thing, but each family is different, so you do you.
Will I have to do anything ass-clenchy like sing-along?
I mean probably not but maybe, life's too short to worry about what could go wrong.
I am nerdy about something, can I talk at Nerd Nite?
Absolutely, though we recommend you come check it out first. That way you can see what other nerds are doing with a mic and PowerPoint.
Can I get drinks there?
You can and you should!
What about food?
Nerd Nite Lawrence does not provide food; however, you can bring something if you need to.
When and where do I go?
If it's the 2nd Wednesday of the month, and you go to Maceli's Catering & Events between 7 and 7:30pm, you will see a Nerd Nite - Lawrence
Where do you all fall on cryptids? Do you believe in them?
Nerd Nite - Lawrence can neither confirm nor deny the existance of aliens, Bigfoots, Chupacabras, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, specters, demons, gremlins, shady government men in suits and black ties, unmarked helicopters, or three raccoons in a trench coat who run Vegas.
You sound fun, can I hook up with you?
No. I'm married.
Please?
Stop being weird. This is awkward for both of us.
Ok. What's the next Nerd Nite - Lawrence about?
April is National Poetry Month, and we're excited to have a talk about The CHildren's Ballads, a delve into Shakespeare's Sonnet 136: one of his horneist sonnets, and a primer on alternative poetry methods by one of my favorite magicians of words, Chance Dibben. It's gonna be straigh lit ya'll no cap.
The Ballad of Nerd Nite continues on April 8! Celebrate National Poetry Month with our presentations about The Child Ballads, Shakespeare Sonnets and Games of Poetry!
