EMU Theatre has been bringing local theater to the locals for 15 years and prides itself on showcasing local talent and this show is no different. EMU presents shows and plays that feature Lawrence actors, directors, producers and tech people who volunteer their time because they love making theater. we have performed over 35 shows in Lawrence, Wichita and Kansas City, showcasing the talents of lo

cal writers along with the works of noted playwrights like Sam Shepard, David Mamet and David Ives. EMU has collaborated with theatre groups in Lawrence and across the Midwest and annually presents 10-minute play festivals, one-act plays and feature length shows. In 2007, we debuted our critically acclaimed Halloween show and in 2008 we put on a Shakespeare in the park style version of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead which drew large crowds to Lawrence's South Park. EMU believes in providing opportunities, through theatre, for people seeking an outlet for their particular artistic expression. Our goal is to further the appreciation of arts and performance in the Lawrence community while promoting and contributing to our city’s rich cultural history. We draw and maintain our strength with an ever-growing membership of veterans and volunteers, keeping the local flavor while expanding the possibilities available in the local arts scene. Yet this concept has driven EMU from the beginning and continues to be our foundation.

A note from one our far-flung friends - Mickey Cesar. He's looking for scripts!

Hello my long-lost friends! You might know I have been teaching English in Ukraine for the past five years. I'd like to ask the EMU playwrights here to consider doing me a favor: send me your old (or new, I suppose) scripts. I have groups of teenagers (and younger) that would have fun performing plays as a way to learn the language. Thanks bunches, miss you all!

Good morning beautiful people. It's a Wednesday, and I hope you are already looking forward to our Annual Members Meeting + Party this Saturday, Oct. 3, starting at 4 p.m. at 1403 E. 18th Terrace, Brett and Angel's house, where we've all shared a lot of EMU love over the years. Please come. It's been awhile since we've gotten our merry selves together. We have some important business first and then all the fun after.

EMU is looking for monologues. We are producing a monologue show in November and we would love to produce yours! They can be up to 20 minutes long, and they can be about anything. They can be part of a larger show (if they can stand on their own) or they can be a show unto themselves. They can be about you (yay!) or they can be about someone else.

The only restriction is that the playwright be living in or have some connection with Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri or Iowa.

Please send them to [email protected] by Sept. 15. We will be making selections by the end of the month.

Hello people. Saturday is the day. If you want costumes, props, equipment, furniture, our big give-away (we'd love donations, though) is for you. If you have donated something to EMU and want it back, come claim it. We have a 10 x 10 unit full of goodies. The gate will be open at Parkway Storage. We are in unit 623. Go through the second gate and go straight to the back of the row of units. You'll see us. Please come so we don't have to throw away perfectly good items!
