As of right now.... Harvest is still on! So get ready for a great weekend! By the way.. this is also the 20th year of me owning the farm! Some of your kids grew up here! Some of you grew up here! As much as the flood hurt my heart as it was happening... It also made me reflect on all of the fun and beauty that I've gotten to experience here....I think I'll keep it! It's worth the risks!

Well... The water has receded.. and honestly.. I'm in shock that the farm pretty much remains as it was.. a few electric fences pulled down.. some pumpkins got picked by the water... But no bank lost and I'm just in shock...it's a muddy mess... But other than a little bit of cleanup... It's business as usual. The town of Laurel is another story.... But they are all out working and cleaning up.. and moving on with life....

And the nulltown bridge and road leading up to it... Also no food from nulltown diner . They have 4 feet of water in their basement...

Sooooo...not an update I want to post... But inquiring minds want to know .. the historic flood is a real doozy... Not all patches were flooded.. will just have to wait and see after the water recedes... Not really going to respond to comments... Maybe this was just a prewash before harvest? Maybe there won't be a harvest... Maybe pumpkins are floating down the river? Not too sure at this time... Can't get there.. roads are flooded... This too shall pass... My people are safe... And I am still in awe of the BEAUTY and POWER of mother nature EQUALLY!

Time for an update! The last few weeks have been a lot of moving parts. Pumpkin plants growing... Deer deciding to teach their fawns where the tasty pumpkin vines are... Spraying with neem oil a few times for the bugs... More mowing... A couple of trips to KY to visit with family and work on a tree house... Figuring out how to buy and install electric fences to deter the deer... Some creek time and live music at Todd's Fork Revival ... And electric cats and baby chick catching (ask DeeDee Schirmer about that one)... And a tractor repair under warranty.. and patching the other tractor's front tire.... also happy 250th anniversary America!

July 2nd-July 5th Weekend -- Lots going on... Thursday Night all of the patches got their first spray with Neem Oil. It is organic and starts the bug control efforts. It controls insects at all stages, doesn't harm worms, if sprayed in the evening, doesn't harm our lovely bees, is a great fungicide, bactericide and miticide.

Then Tiffany and I flame weeded for the 3rd time this season. It may seem like it isn't working, but each time there are less weeds, and what is mostly left is grass and nutgrass... so I'll stick with the flame weeding.. as it proves effective.

We had a lovely Ott Road neighbors dinner Friday night and sat in the lap of luxury (air conditioning). It was good, because all these Ott Road neighbors are crazy and are always outside working in this heat! :)

Lastly, 10 coyote cutouts were made, painted, configured with stakes and placed in the patches.

The plants are looking great!

Tiffany may unfriend me after the flame weeding in "feels like" temps over 100!

Enjoy the progress... look at the plants grow! Also, the first flowers bloomed this weekend and the bees seem very happy for them!
