Come out and see us! You can find us flying any time or day, but the best times are weekend mornings and early afternoons and most weekday mornings.

FREE FLIGHT INSTRUCTION every Wednesday evening starting @ 4:30 pm until dusk! Free State Aeromodelers is an association of avid radio controlled model aircraft enthusiasts. Our flying field is located midway between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. Our club was chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, charter number 232, in 1980. Since that time our club has grown steadily. Our current flying field, Konterra Model Airpark, opened in the spring of 2000. We welcome all types of aircraft from fixed wing, giant scale, drones, gliders, helicopters, and more. If it flies, it can be found here. Spectators and prospective new members are always welcome to visit us at our flying field. We offer a large, well groomed runway, two shelters to keep out of the sun when it’s hot (or raining) and a large parking lot. More important than our facilities are the members. We pride ourselves at being friendly and willing to help all newcomers.

Free State Aeromodelers @ Laurel S.T.E.M Festival

On Saturday, September, 19th, the Free State Aeromodelers participated in the S.T.E.M. festival put on by https://www.heydrtay.com/ and held at the Craig A. Moe Laurel Multiservice Center.

Members Steven, Jorden, Kirk, Henry and Eric set up a display including radio contolled planes, helicopters, drones, a simulator for kids to "fly" and even a turbine jet engine to see! We were excited for another opportunity to support the local community!

Our hobby is a great activity for kids of all ages - with mechanical learning and critical thinking, social connection, confidence building, not to mention that it's a fun outdoor activity! If you have a child or young adult who could benefit from this we invite you to come out and see us at Konterra Model Airpark, 6050 Van Dusen Road in Laurel!
