What an INCREDIBLE evening! Thank you to everyone who joined us for Latrobe Art Center’s 13th Annual Yellow Tie Gala and for your continued support!

We are especially grateful to this year’s generous sponsors and to this year's top sponsor, Robindale Energy. This celebration would not have been possible without your partnership and commitment to Latrobe Art Center and its mission.

From all of us at Latrobe Art Center, thank you for making this year’s Yellow Tie Gala a night to remember!

Art Term of the Week! 🎨
This week’s term: Foreground, Midground, and Background

The foreground, midground, and background are three elements of landscape paintings/pictures that come together to create a scene.

The foreground of an art piece is the area of the painting or picture that is the closest to the viewer.

The midground of an art piece is in the middle of the painting or picture, between the foreground and the background.

The background of an art piece, as the name suggests, is the area of a painting or photo that is the furthest away from the viewer, "in the back."

These elements are an essential part of setting a scene. Sometimes the scenery itself is the subject of the piece and sometimes the foreground, midground, and background come together to create a scene for the subjects to exist in. These elements ground (pun intended) the subjects of the piece in a reality.

In Adam Barbe's "Japanese Landscape #10," the foreground, midground, and background are highlighted and labeled.

Art Term of the Week! 🎨

This week’s term: Portraits

Portraits are pieces of art that aim to capture the likeness of an individual. This can range from an actual photograph of that person, to a stylistic painting or drawing of them, to an abstract representation of them. Portraits are not limited to people, as pets can be included as well.

Here are some examples of both people and pet portraits by artist at the Art Center.

"Florence" by Robbie Kollar

We're excited to introduce Aria’s Art Corner, a brand-new monthly Children's Art Vlog featuring fun, easy art projects that young artists can create right from home!

Hosted by Aria Kuhns, a 13-year-old volunteer and longtime Latrobe Art Center student, the series is inspired by her love of art and her desire to give back to the place where she has spent nearly a decade learning and creating.

Through each episode, Aria will guide viewers step-by-step through creative projects designed especially for children around ages 8–11. Whether you're looking for a fun afternoon activity or simply love making art, Aria’s Art Corner is a wonderful way to spark creativity all year long.
