Pruyn House The Friends of Pruyn House support the Pruyn House, a beautiful, restored home on 5½ acres in the hamlet of Newtonville, Town of Colonie.

This cultural, educational and historical center is owned by the Town of Colonie and supported by the Friends. The Friends of Pruyn House is a corporation which was chartered by the New York State Board of Regents in 1983. The organization is tax exempt under federal and state law. The mission of the Friends of Pruyn House, in partnership with the Town of Colonie, is to restore and conserve the Pr

uyn House Complex as an educational, cultural and social center. The Friends of Pruyn House, through the Board of Trustees and staff, support the Complex. The Friends plan and fund programming, special events, insurance, newsletters, and improvements and furnishings for the Complex. Funds are raised through a membership program, grants, and fundraising events. The Town of Colonie contributes funding for improvements, services, utilities, salaries, and maintenance of the grounds.

Friends of Pruyn House are offering six summer concerts in the Barn with a diverse line-up.

Our Concerts in the Barn series of summer performances will start on Wednesday, July 8th. Music is performed from 6:00-8:00pm. All the historic buildings at the Pruyn House Cultural Center are open to the public for tours from 5:00-6:00pm.

Tickets are still only $5, children ages 12 and under are free.
Come early to enjoy the historic buildings and gardens.
Vendors available for food, beverages & ice cream.
Lawn chairs and dancing shoes are encouraged!
Seating available in the Buhrmaster Barn.

Annual Fort Orange Garden Club Plant Sale and Town of Colonie Conservation Day
9:00am-1:00pm
Always a wonderful harbinger of Spring, the Fort Orange Garden Club Plant Sale is slated for Saturday, May 9th in the Buhrmaster Barn from 9:00am until 1:00pm. Plan to come early to get the best selection of beautiful annuals, quality perennials, tomatoes, vegetables, herbs and planters. Members will be on hand to help you with your gardening questions as well.

Additionally, the Blue Creek Garden Club will sell their popular bird seed wreaths in the Potting Shed and provide a fun kid’s craft.

The Town of Colonie Conservation Day will be held in the tent next to the Barn. Supervisor Peter G. Crummey, the Town Board and the Town’s Conservation Advisory Council are sponsoring the distribution of free tree seedlings and informative stations promoting conservation.

Some seedlings that will be available are: Sand Cherry, Red Osier Dogwood, Silky Dogwood, Virginia Rose, Wetland Rose, American High Bush Cranberry, Arrowwood, Serviceberry, Gray Dogwood, Winterberry, American Sweetgum, Red Maple, Blue Spruce, River Birch, Silver Maple, Easter Red Cedar, Red Pine.

In just a few short weeks our Annual Appeal comes to a close, MAY 1, 2026. With your consistent help we have met or exceeded our goals for this important fundraiser for many years.

At present we are just $4,000 away from reaching our goal of $40,000 to make much needed improvements to the Buhrmaster Barn windows and ventilation. This beloved venue is home to our summer concert series and many other public events throughout the year.

We have great news! Friends of Pruyn House has been selected as a non-profit partner in the Hannaford Community Bag Program.

We will receive $1 for each $2.50 reusable Community Bag sold during the month of April at the Latham Hannaford, 579 Troy-Schenectady Road.

Fort Orange Garden Club and the Friends of Pruyn House are participating in an exciting new recycling program, "Recycle Beyond the Bag". We are now accepting the following items in a recycling bin in the Pruyn House basement:

Produce bags
Store bags
Ice bags
Ziploc and other re-closable bags
Cereal box liners
Case over-wrap (such as cases of water, paper towels, toilet paper)
Bread bags
Newspaper sleeves
Dry cleaning bags
Bubble wrap
Plastic e-commerce mailers

Holiday Open House at Pruyn House Friday, December 5th 10:00 - 6:00 and Saturday, December 6th 10:00 - 3:00

Sinterklaas will be here from 10:00 - 12:30 on Saturday, December 6th

Please join us for the annual Holiday Open House at Pruyn House on Friday, December 5th from 10:00am - 6:00pm. If you prefer, you can come Saturday, December 6th from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Sinterklaas (Dutch St.Nicholas) will be here on Saturday, December 6th from 10:00am - 12:30pm.

We will also be hosting the Blue Creek Garden Club Holiday Arrangements and Greens Sale at the same time in the basement of the Pruyn House. Come pick up some beautiful arrangements or greens.

The Fort Orange Garden Club Holiday Greens Sale will start on Thursday, December 4th from 4:00pm- 6:00pm in the Verdoy Schoolhouse. An early bird donation of $5 will go towards their Scholarship Fund.

They will also be open on Friday, December 5th from 12:00pm - 6:00pm and Saturday, December 6th from 9:00am - 12:00pm with no $5 charge.

We look forward to seeing you at the Pruyn House for the holidays!
