The Calder… Museum? Garden? Shrine? 🌿

A long-awaited space now open in Philadelphia—and one I can’t wait to experience in person.

My first awareness of Calder wasn’t a single moment, but a time around 11 years old. I remember feeling confused by the simplicity—almost embarrassed by it. But then, what once felt elementary began to feel elemental. ✨

His work, and that of many others, changed how I see—how I measure balance, motion, and quiet defiance.

Calder taught me that simplicity isn’t a lack of ideas, but the discipline not to crowd them.

Today I had the incredible pleasure of a private studio tour with the brilliant — and wow… just WOW. These photos barely scratch the surface. His work is mesmerizing, meditative, and honestly… maybe even therapeutic.

The clarity of concept, the precision, the light, the form — it’s all masterfully articulated. Huge thanks to Phillip and his amazing gallery manager for the warmest welcome. I felt like a longtime friend and collaborator from the second I walked in.
